182 driving position; Recaros

Just bought a 182 and am really struggling with the awful driving position, have to do something or the car will be going before it is even run in! Anyone fitted recaros or similar and do they improve the driving position?

i never had a problem with the driving position and im 6 3, i think recaros or some sort of aftermarket seat will definately help you though as long as you select the right seat for you particular problem

I know what you mean. I used to get back ache badly in the 182. The seats are sh*t and i went back to the dealer and they had a play with them and it got better.

Give them a little time to sort themself out

it does get better.

I think a lot more people would fit aftermarket seats if it wasnt for the airbag issue. Cups didnt have side airbags - hence you see a lot of Cups with aftermarket seats.

I agree - after 6 months Im still struggling with the seats (65" though!), although it has got a bit better.

Just need Renault to sort out the Recaro option! (although I dont think that is likely to happen anytime soon!)

If its any consolation... im 6ft 5 and the driving position in my Mk1 172 is the best ive ever had in any car!!

Doesn’t anyone find it impossible to adopt a good driving position in this car though?

If you put the seat far enough back to get your legs in a good position, you can’t reach the steering wheel and gear stick!

Alternatively if you adjust the seat so that you have a good driving position relative to the steering and gears, then your legs are too close to the pedals and your legs are almost bent at 90° at the knee!

I think half the problem is the fact that you just can’t adjust the seat low enough; anyone approached Renault to see if they can adjust anything to get the drivers seat any lower?

lol, i can actually say that i think the driving position is absolutely fine and i aint had a problem with it. ok so im only 5ft 11 but I cant seem to get my head round what people are complaing about, apart from maybe the 6ft 2 plus people - but surely they knew the clio would be a tight squeeze ?

I am 5 11" and I find it fine. Whack my head on the doorframe every time I get in if I have a helmet on, but other than that no complaints at all.

Ive got to agree with bigsi - my (mk2 172) Clio has the comfiest driving position of any car Ive owned. Soooo much better than the mk4 astra I had before - mega back ache.

Im 61, drive with the seat fully back on the runners, set as low as itll go (wish it could go lower though) and feel very comfortable reaching the steering wheel. I seem to have a good build for the width of the seats too! Only prob I have is catching some trim with my left foot when I change gear, but only a problem with big boots (size 11!).

Have a very good play around with the controls, you should get it comfier.

If anyone can find a way to modify and lower the seats Id kill to know! Im 67 and there is suprisingly enough headroom but the seating position is just way too high. I would replace the seats with aftermarket buckets but in Australia its against the law to remove airbag seats and I would be in all kinds of trouble if i needed to make an insurance claim.

I used to have a 206 gti and the driving position was dredful ,172 /182 seats r so much better imo.

surely the Recaros will be options on NEW cars only? or can they be retro fitted?
not really bothered about the seats themselves, but the bits that they fit to circumvent the airbag issue. Youre probably right about the seats.

just give it time - you will get used to it. if you adjust it slightly each time you drive you will eventually find a good seat position.

i dont think there is a problem with the seats its just the steering wheel it should have reach adjustment.

i was uncomfortable when i first had the car but i am used to it now give it a bit of time.

I am having problems too with my new 172 Cup. Mind you I am at the other end of the height scale. I find the seat base is too deep for me being short in the leg and digs into the back of my legs.
Trying to find someone who can reshape the foam otherwise I might look at Recaros/Cobra etc.

Actually, I did email Recaro about seats and they replied with the models that fit but stated that if it was a 3 door you can only fit one - presumably because most of the seats they do dont tilt for rear access. Still couldnt confirm whether they have mounts for pre tensioners.

Who on this board with a 172 Cup has fitted different seats? Would like to know what and how etc please.

im just over 6ft with no problems at all. No back ache which I sometimes get, as you just make the bottom of the seat firmer or softer for your own preference.

im 6ft4 and my legs hurt in my 182. the steering wheel in to low and seat far to high. the passenger seat is a total joke. how high does it need to be man?!! surley someone can fabricate a new subframe. i had a punto sporting years ago and fabed a new subframe. made a great improvement.. no side airbags etc ofcourse to overcome..lol
