Should be quite an easy job for you, can't imagine any probs apart from what made it pull apart in the first place, all ur engine mounts fine?

Yer there all fine but the exhaust has no u clip on that section could this be the problem?

Mine hasn't either, if u don't think itl hold together it wouldn't hurt to put a clip atoms. It. When u do get it back together just check it for any play

Well I bought an exhaust repair kit as I'm away from home seemed to be fine, drove 2 miles and the exhaust disconnected again which sounds f****** awful, it seems like it won't be such a quick fit, will b taking it to a garage in the morn... (wiv ear plugs) the car is still under a warranty which was from the garage I bought the car from, obviously I need to contact them but I wonder if I should try and replace the whole system from the cat back as opposed to getting it simply repair... Especially as it's the standard Renault item. (soz 4 for the ramble)

Ive been here but only with a broken exhaust-

If its been done properly the CAT joins to the bottom of the downpipe via a springloaded clamp & then at the other end its clamped to the middle box- Common failures are the centre pipe snaps because of rust away from the centre section- If thats the case you are looking 100% for a new centre section which are hard to find-- more likely get a full system- poss of Ebay or in the classifieds on here-
You could buy patent from kwik fit but they are made from tinfoil -
heres a common failure- first hand experience when a customer was collecting a car -

At least if you are missing a clamp you can see what you require

That looks exactly like my exhaust at the mo, so u think a new system is the answer rather than repair, I assume the cat wasn't damaged when this happened Steve?

Yeah CAT fine, when you start fiddling around with exhausts & resecure them if they arent fitted correctly & dont have a bit of play in them then thats when things start breaking / shearing - even prior to that they will fail just on the rust element

you will need a new centre section as you cannot clamp to rust.....

I just sold one last week as new for £100- there are around 1k from renault-

Buy standard second hand or a mild performance one depending on wallet size

Will there be a quick solution so I can get 40 miles back to home do you think Steve? Thanks for your prompt help too mate.

Just in case this happens to anyone else, I called RAC and they came and put a metal sleeve joining the snapped pipes together, once it sat inside them they turned a screw built into the sleeve which made the metal expand so it was a fairly tight fit. Of course it still blew but the noise was much better and safer than driving with the exhaust hanging down after snapping.
