182 exhaust manifold onto a 172

  PH Quick
As the title says i want to fit the 182 manifold onto my 172. Only thing being do you have to buy the sports cat from KTR? Or can you fit it another way?

Cheers All, and Merry Christmas

i was also wondering about this mod ; does this manifold then go under the subframe instead of over it like the 172 manifold ??

this would make the yearly MOT change of decat /to cat much easier ! If this is the case i want to do this as well

Best thing is to do a search as most of the info has already been covered but for a taster, buy a second hand manifold and you just need a link pipe to join up.

Bugger to fit and dont expect 10 bhp. Like any mod you need a remap to get the best out of it.

Not sure about that better top end than bottom end. Has this ever really been proven or is it just going by other cars 4-2-1 vs 4 into one ?

From my personal experience:

2500 - 5000 rpm - better torque
top end power + 4 HP

measured on MAHA 3000 dynos before and after, just changing manifold - no remap

i don't think you gain bhp with this. it is a torque mod. iirc it is to offset the loss of torque that the 10 bhp gain causes with the 182. a 4-1 manifold will give more ultimate power, but at the cost of torque.

I was going to do this mod, priced it up and spoke to various people on here, in the tuning circle etc, personally i decided it was not worth it, the cost and its not a very pleasant job totally outweigh the gains, and it is no where near 10bhp!

Just put an unsilenced decat on mine today, as gaz is going soft and wanted a silenced one when it was his! Cams for the summer i hope!!!

you might not get much bhp, but when mine was done i spent a while trying to change from third to fourth and finding i was already in fourth!

I've got the twin cat fitted to mine so don't think i'd be able to cut it down to fit. Does it need to be made much shorter? If i fit a decat going to have the problem of when i come round to do the MOT won't be able to get it to pass, would surely then have to put the standard manfold and cat back on.

price per bhp increase? boo....

good for 10 horses which is more than you can say for most mods on a 1*2. Also it works well in conjunction with other mods.

Rubbish - even @ 10 extra horses my comment still stands (seems it is in fact a peak of 5 from the comments), Price per increase?. Spend it on making the car handle that bit better OR use the money as a fair big chunk towards a DECENT engine upgrade i.e: bodies..

this question will answer your question but nobody seems to know.. :rasp:

the manifold routes exactly the same way, but the cat joint is further towards the back of the car. so yes its easier.

yess this is what i wanted to hear mate ;)

so a b**ch to fit but only once in a lifetime ! And then piece of pie fitting decat/sportscat

It wasnt just the manifold that gave the 182 a '10 bhp' gain. Also had other tweeks here and there but the manifold was the major component thats why no one should really be expecting a 10 bhp increase from just bolting on a 182 mani.

i think its a good worth while mod, i had mine stage 3 ceramic coated before i put mine in and went for a straight through decat, definitely alot more power and torque lower down, good thing about the cermamic coating is the i can never get the engine temp upto the half way point while driving down it always sits on the mark below half so it runs a bit cooler
