182 Headlight issues

Ok so when the engine is running and my headlight switch is at 0 my headlights come on, put it to sidelights i get the side lights then when turn to headlights they come on as you would expect.

Any ideas why they are coming on in the 0 position? Faulty switch? Faulty relay?

I didnt know it had it, funnily enough its been getting dark when i noticed it, would the switch not have an option to have auto or manual though?

Turn ignition on and then turn the lights on and off fast three times.

This turns the auto lights function either on or off.

Do what Daniel said - you'll hear a beeping noise when it goes on/off.

Im quite happy to have it on now i know what it is, i was just worried it was the good old french electrics playing up.

Just found this. Again, I thought I was suffering from French electrics, but two flicks, a beep, and the lights are coming on automatically again on my 172. Great thanks for posting the solution.
