182 how worn are the breaks?

  Recaro + Cupped 182
Hello,

My mate reckons theres not much life left in my 182 front discs and pads, but when renault checked it when I had a service they said only 10 % worn and that was only 4k ago, the cars only done 16k any way, does anyone have a technique for checking?

He ran his finger up the disc and felt how much it was poking out at the rim of the disc.

Any help appreciated

Cheers

If there is a big lip on the edge of the disc it's most likely they need replacing. Modern pads tend to eat discs much morer than I remember from older cars as a yoof.

There is a minimum thickness for the disc, but I'll be fucked if I can remember what it is.... lol

Oh and for future reference it's 'Brakes'.

cool, 16k seems shat, on searches some people are getting 30k out of there original set and I don't drive like a t**t either.

anyone know how much a stock set of disk's and pads are for a 182?

Cheers

Pads might be low after 20k of hard miles but the discs will probs be ok

Run your finger over the disc from the inside to the outer edge, there'll be a lip on the outer edge, the bigger the lip the more worn they are

I remember paying £50 for standard pads at a Renault dealer a few years ago.

Discs are going to be £30/£35 plus each.

Why go standard OEM when you could get better cheaper? I got Brembo high carbon discs and EBC Greenstuff pads for £94 from G.S.F.

I wouldn't take it to renault they just say you need new ones without even looking then try and charge you hundreds for the privilage

I have had one 172 and two 182s, things like tyres and brakes don't seem to last very long.

I have just changed my pads, discs and hoses at 10,055 miles. I dont drive hard, but I would prefer confidence in my car's braking ability.

One thing I will not compromise on is braking performance, there was a lot of life left in the OEM braking components I removed, but now the brakes are better, as far as I'm concerned the job's a good un.

Im just on 28k and still have the original discs and pads.. Pretty sure the pads will need doing soon though on my 24k service sheet renault have said both front and rear to be 70% worn, I find this a little odd as I wouldnt imagine the rears to wear as quick as the front. Ive just recently had an mot aswell which passed nothing mentioned about brakes....

I would be very surpised if you need to replace discs at 16k if they were only worn by 10% 4k ago..

Rob.
