182 import alarm/imobiliser

hi guys getting my 182 motorpoint soon.

i know it has no alarm fitted but is the imobiliser cat 1?

im sure i read some where on here that it does not matter when it comes to insurance if it has no alarm as long as the imobiliser is cat 1?

any recomendations on which alarm is the best to get fitted so it will work of the renault key?

i have seen places advetising cat 2 to cat 1 upgrades for around £220.

any 172/182 owners had this done?

Motorpoint can fit you a Sigma alarm which uses the key fob.

Did they not offer you that when you bought the car? They usually try and sell you everything that can!

but they are twice the price of a local fitter

no cat 1 imobiliser is that true?

I was lazy and went for the convenience of it being already on the car when I collected it. They get an independant fitter to install them, but I reckon they still skim a few quid off that charge too.

The imobiliser is CAT 1 as far as I know. With the addition of the alarm it gives you a CAT 2-1 rating according to the fittment certificate.

When I was looking for insruance some said the alarm doesnt matter, others said as its the same catagory as the Renault one they would ust put down factory fitted. Funny considering its the dealers who fit the alarms.

the dealers dont fit the alarms the import centre does.alarms all fitted to 172 cups 182 s privilege and clio vans all get done at the import centre.any other car fitted is a customer request by the dealer

Had mine fitted and took the battery out of the renault key so the central locking doesnt get mixed up. Just use the fob now.

Be careful because ive heard a few horror stories about some muppet fitters making a dogs dinner of things. I got mine fitted by a company recommended and they have been around for about 15 years. Couldnt tell anyone had been in the car when i picked it up. I would suggest finding someone yourself and do a bit of research on what you exactly want, i.e additional tilt sensors, pagers etc..

Immobilisers are Cat 2, to be graded as CAT 1, cars need to have an alarm and immobiliser fitted.
