yes it does need to go back to the garage, there are a few threads on here if you search regarding this problem.

Should add this topic to the FAQ list.

Do a search for "knock" in Clio Discussion over the last month.

Would give you the thread address, but you need to learn-to-search. It really does work (well sometimes ;)).

yes go back there is a modified engine mount available renault know about it..... its on the system Ivw been told its not in red they will ahve to search whatever that means!! also get them to look at the heatshield touching the zrst and powersteering pipe at the same time B4 you ask yes a pipe can make a knock cos its metal!!!!

yes on mine they adjusted the heat shield on the exhaust, greased an engine mount and adjusted the exhaust as it was bowing in the middle, a combination of these stopped the knocking, just not sure which one!

HI LADS I WORK FOR RENAULT AND THE NOISE IS FROM THE ENGINE MOUNT POSITION YOU MITE NEED A WASHER FITTING UNDER YOUR MOUNT TO INCREASE THE GAP BETWEEN THE CAT AND BULKHEAD

Ive left mine, is it serious or what, there hasnt been a recall or anything.

Paulrte, what dealership do you work for, we can always do with people on this forum who work at dealerships :)

Mine has gone in for the 3rd time this morning.

The last two times they have carried out the strut top mount fix. Even though I have said on both occasions its not that, as I had that on the 172.

Mine is just something lose which is knocking against something. You can hear it when I turn the engine off, or just lift slightly at low speeds. Hopefully it will come back done this time, as well as the alarm beeping!! Thats in for its 3rd time too.

Mines going in for the second time on the 11th Dec.

As well as making the noise when I lift off the accelerator at low speeds, it also does it as Im coasting at low speeds, like into our work car park or down my street into our drive. Its getting really annoying. And its not just one knck either, its more like a clonk clonk clonk clonk clonk, then fades as I stop.

JAY172 works at where Im taking it (Lambs Chesterfield), hopefully hell get to work on it and put it right. He had a ride with me and heard it, so I know Im not making it up.

mine took the dealer two visits to fix but fix it they did so I guess I really was lucky to get it sorted that quick.

dave182 you are still the only Cliosport member to ever get this successfully fixed?

I am still trying to decide whether to wait 17 months for the first service or book it in?

Here is another version of what could be wrong. Workmates husband is a Renault mechanic and I just asked him on the phone.

He said its almost always some "engine stabiliser bar" and that he has to change them all the time and not just on Clios? He said he has to fix more meganes than Clios for that problem.

Anyone know anything about that? He hadnt heard of any other fix like fitting a washer in the engine mount.

I guess the source of the noise e.g. exhaust hitting heat shield is not neccessarily the root cause e.g. engine mount/stabiliser bars allowing the engine to move so that the exhaust can hit the heat shield in the first place.

Do you fix the source of the noise or the root cause?

Ive just dropped my 182 at Waters of Letchworth and the mechanic sat with me to listen for the knocking heard it and said, its what happens on the 182 because of the hard suspension. He put the hard suspension down to the dashboard and door panel rattling too. Im taking a print out of this to show him!

Listen to this. My brakes on two occasions now have taken a second to react after no use - long drives. He said it was because the discs go cold and they need to warm up. Okaaay, ill tell the police that when I need that one second to brake from hitting somone!

if we can find a dealer that can garentee a proper fix then im sure we will all be interested in paying them a visit!

Too right. Dave 182 got his sorted, (correct me if Im wrong) but I think hes up in the North... unsure of dealership though. Anyone had their problem cleared in the South East by any chance...??

Another one here! Booked in on Thurs but think Im going to cancel until we get a def reference to a new mount part number and/or tech note to fix. My dealer couldnt even sort me out with a J41 artic blue touch up pen, without me getting the full renault part number for them from this forum, so Ive no faith in them fixing this unless I spoon feed them again.

Jeremy T / Renault Tech guys, can you please help with this?

believe it or not this is true although a second is either a problem or an exaggeration mine are not as sharp as they should be when cold but its not as drastic sounding as this

Im going to phone the dealer today and get them to order the necessary engine mount part beforehand just in case it is that. I dont want to get it there this Saturday for them to say, yes its the engine mount, not got any in so can you bring it back... blah blah blah. Im also going to forewarn them would it could also be - exhaust thingy etc..

I just cant be arsed taking it in all the time (this will be the 2nd just for this problem), and walking round bloody Chesterfield for 4 hours while they try and fix it. Knackers my Saturday up and deprives me of a lay-in!

Yup, my 182 makes small knock/pop noise when coming off the accelerator at low speeds, but only makes a single noise each time - will speak with Renault Cambridge when I get a moment...
