182 loose steering

  197 FF

My 182's steering feels what i can only descirbe as 'loose'. I get very little feedback at all as if something is lose. the lower ball joints look decent is there anything else it could be and how do i check?

I have recently had a 4 wheel alignment carried out but it hasnt really improved. its an 05 with 47k.

i had this on my 172, changed the track rod ends helped slightly but never cured, also had full alignment along with new bottom arms and bushes and ball joints still nothing, turned out it was the inner track rods between the rack and the track rod ends that were worn, changed them and it was like new.

Its a horrific job but ok if you have patience and flexible wrists! and something like a 30mm open spanner or something

Same as Martin, tie rods (inner track rods / track rods) but not the track rod ends were to blame, tightened up the handling and made it feel like new again.

I'm not majorly experianced or familiar with steering bits and bobs, but i jacked the ack up at the weekend and put it on axle stands. nothing seems like it has any play in it the wheel doesnt move unless it moves the steering wheel too. Common sense would say there is nothing wrong or worn out as there would be play, is this right?

I also have some really pants tyres on (previous owner) which i will eventually change but this could add to my problem?
