Bit of a bugger got to lower the subframe so idealy uoi want it on a lift.
Then you've got to make up a cat pipe to make it fit your exhaust system as the 172 exhaust after the cat sits in a different place than the 182 one and neither 172 or 182 cats fits.

is it a big job to lower the subframe?? i've got a k-tec sports cat on mine at the mo!
2 bolts plus one earth stray its not impossible its just when you do it the car has to be quite high idealy so you can remove the manifold. Thats whay a garage with a 4 post ligft will be able to do the job much easier and quicker.
this is how you do it mate
back of the engine remove all 9 bolts that hold the manifold to the engine
dont need to move the earth strap it has enough give in it.
put the car on the lift you will have to put the 2 front posts on the sills (careful)
there are 2 triangular peices of metal held onto the subframe with 4 x 13mm bolts un do these.
there are then 2 big 16mm bolts to the rear of the sub frame support the subframe with a post then undo the two bolts.
then you'll need to remove the dog bone engine mount its 1 18mm bolt at the front and 1 16mm bolt going through the subframe.
once that is off lower down the post and the subframe will lower a little this should be enough for you to clear it with the new manifold
you will then have to undo the manifold from the cat, these are 2 x 10mm nuts and bolts and a c**t to remove you may have to grind them off as they are ment to be there for the life of the car.
on the old cat you have 2 flanges you can cut them off the old cat and weld them into a new piece of pipe (2.25inch) ensure you measure it up right, if you have an after market exhaust it will have some give in it.
you'll need to put the manifold in either though the top or if there is a big enough gap through the bottom bolt it up when you have fitted into position.
you then need to replace the subframe aligning it back with the holes can be some what of a challenge it should mate up if you loosly bolt it up.
if you want to keep a cat then buy a 182 cat and shorten the mid section of the exhaust slightly.
i changed mine and it cracked so i had to put the 172 one back on i cant honestly notice the difference in power at all
i paid £130 for the manifold which was off a low mile car so was like new and and just over £100 fitted so in my eyes i wouldnt say it was a waist of money an itg air filter costs more than that,my mate from reno mot'd on monday and i dropped it off at his house on the sunday night and he drives the things all the time and he commented on how well i picks up

I like those numbers :approve: Hmmm....I'm starting to get seriously tempted by one of these (and I said I'd leave her standard!)
I take it you mean ITG maxogen by that air filter comment? Its a little more than an air filter . It is expensive though, your right. ITG panel filter is only about £40
It is just the exhaust/manifold that different on the 182 isnt it ?

whats so good about the maxogen then to warrent the price ?

It does'nt warrant the price, thats the thing! lol v. expensive
Its widely regarded (on here anyhow) as one of the best off the shelf induction mod's. I'm not exactly sure what makes it so good (guess they spent alot on development, hence the price) Think you need a remap to take full advantage IRRC. I'd be tempted by a second hand one.
Do a search. Its been discussed loads

Nice price fitted.... typical prices are £250 manifold and at least £350 to fit (dropping sub frame etc).....
lets say you did get it for £230 all in... thats about 7bhp for £230.... bet no one else on here can get over 7bhp for £230 - as i said, worth!...
