182 or 182 Cup

As lagerlout says, the 182 Cup is purely taking advantage of the Cups hardcore image. You would have to be stupid not to take all the extras the 182 with Cup pack has when it only costs an additional grand.

I personally think they should of removed air con completely and sold it for £500 less, because if trackday goers are the intended buyers they would probably want to junk it anyway.

I have heard there will be sports seats brought out? I think they should be for the 182 Cup only, then it would be worthwile getting one.

Ive just phoned my local Volvo dealer to book a test drive of a big comfortable, full of high spec gadgets tank! i might buy it just to get more gadgets and to make you REALLY jealous!!!!!!

Make sure you get leather and alcantara and a decent wheel too. ;)

You would have to be stupid to think that everyone thinks the same as you Rob! if i wanted the extras i would have bought them regardless how much money they cost!

Excuse my ignorance. Is the 182 Cup completely free of any type of A/C, ABS etc (as per the 172 CUP) ?

rflol, I must say I too would have got a cup variant but I just couldnt look at the steering wheel and seats on my long journeys from work. If I had, I probably would be driving my V70 to work for the last 2 months - instead I take the 182 complete cos it gives me the power and the seats make me smile. Almost as comfy as the V70 as well - hence the T5 aint left the driveway in 2 or 3 months.

I did consider the 172 cup but that was because I preferred it to the 172 complete (at the time), but when the 182 was introduced with cup packs I just couldnt resist - best of both worlds IMHO.

It is the way it is meant to be - fast, taught and comfortable. I love just looking at the empty passenger seat on my way home and thinking sweet that seat looks good.

P.S does the cup have the logos stitched into the back of the seat?

No, it has manual A/C. ABS and traction control.

Renault can be excused about the ABS, because it is now law that all new vehicles must have it fitted.

the 182 cup has ABS and aircon (non climate) but loses leather/alcantara, rear headrests, xenons, 182 steering wheel with insert and probably something else that i forget at the moment.

182 cup = 2.0 dynamique.

Why bother.
Agreed!

Load of b0ll0x 2.0 dynamique - has the dynamique got stiffer lowered suspension, 16" wheels etc etc - NO! 182 Cup is a quality motor, not only is it significantly cheaper than a standard 182, its also quicker - one of the best cars ive driven.

My little 1.2 dynamique has got all this stuff you mention. Stiffer lower suspension, 17s etc etc.

The only thing it lacks is the 2.0l engine. But to be honest i love my little car to bits. Yeah i want the RS clio, but at the end of the day i cant afford one. And if i could i think i would go for the CUP version too, as i would strip it and put bucket seats in etc. Dont care about the stereo as i have a decent ICE setup which i would put in. I dont care about air con or climate control either. If its cold, turn the heaters on, if its hot open the window! simple.

At the end of the day though mate, i think its all down to what you can afford, or what you want the car for.

I will admit that a 182 with the Cup does give the best of both worlds, but as I am the owner of a 172 Cup, Im gonna stick up for my car a bit here!!

The 172 Cup just looks much nicer on the outside, special paint just for the cup, nice alloys (not big billabong ones ie. standard 172 / 182).

It does lack some features but thats what you want, I got the one for speed as thats what I bought it for, Xenons not fussed about, seats with half leather, which are the same seats anyway didnt bother me. A/C I must admit I will probably miss come the summer (my old Punto had it).

Im not the sort of person to start bad mouthing others peoples choices (some are ) but it just comes down to what you want.

If you can afford it get the 182 with Cup pack (keeps everyone happy), and then for god sake get some nice alloys on it!! :)

I dont look at the seats when Im sat on them.

I dont look at the wheel when Im driving... out the windscreen usually works best for me ;)

I lower my windows in the summer to keep cool (as I have done for the last 15 years).

I practice cadence braking to cover off the missing ABS.

I can only listen to one CD at a time.

I dont drive fast at night on unfamiliar roads and can make do without Xenons.

I like a focussed driving experience (as opposed to going fast) which is why I bought the 172 Cup.

IMO the 182 Cup does all the above, but for a significant chunk of change less than a standard 182 with Cup packs.

If I was in the market for a new RS Clio again... itd be the 182 Cup without question for all the above reasons.

I think its pretty much agreed that 172 cups arent actually any quicker than the non cup variant, and as the 182 cup has an even smaller difference in weight from its non cup version any supposed difference between the performance is even less likely.

*puts flame suit on ready for die hard Cup owners ready to flame him*
But the 182 is quicker than the 172 eh;)

Mate chill out, i wasnt having a dig at 182 cups! I drive a 1.2 16v dynamique myself! Yes they are slow, they dont have leather, they dont have xenons they dont have a 2.0L engine! But the seats in the 182 cups are excactly the same seats as my GFs 04 dynamique! They have exactly the same dash, they have exactly the same electric heated mirrors and electric windows, they have a similar if not the same computer for fuel, trip, mpg etc.

Also mine does have 16s and lower/stiffer suspension ;)

Thats fair enough Mark, seems for you the Cup is the perfect car. The thing is, in reality, there are very few people out there like yourself. Whilst Im sure most Cup drivers would like to think they bought theirs for the same reasons as you, in reality they just like the idea of having a more focused car rather than actually making use of it.

Hence why nearly all 172 Cup orders towards the end of its life were ordered with the optional CC. Had there been Xenons and leather seats Id be willing to bet most would have ordered those too....

Renault havent stripped the 182 much for the 182 Cup (comparatively), because there wasnt really any need - its the Cup badge that does it for most people, rather than how focused the car actually is.

Well your 182 wasnt as fast as your 172 through the twisties as you had coilover suspension and straightline speed as you say little difference in real world between the pair, but 182 just seems nicer:)

Obviously the Cup and Dynamique have similar interiors as theyre both renault clios at the end of the day

I like the cup for all the reasons people bought the 172 cup, only this time its safer with ABS and traction control..." things IMHO that the original cup should of had

If i get my way this year i will have a 182 cup in racing blue and a new Audi A3 tdi in shinny red so i can keep the cup in the garage for the weekend and the audi to use

This way the cup makes sense to me as its a raw drive to thrash at weekends. For the 2 weeks a year of summer we have ill make do with air con over CC.The seats are the same bar some cheap leather that cracks within 2 years and the xenons look better than they actually work. And most of all ill be safe in the knowlege that i own the fastest clio bar the V ever made

That does sound a good idea Ian as I do the same garage wise but the 182 cup is no more hardcore than the std 182, in fact compare the spec of the 182 cup and it shames many a luxory marque.

Fastest 2 lite clio, yes, but no more or less hardcore than a std 182

Oh and you should have said fasted clio bar v6 mk2;)

This is quite amusing - a war in the cliosport forum http://www.cliosport.net/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif. I think in all honesty that both cars are great cos they are clio sports. The only thing I dont buy into is the "but my car is faster than yours argument". I cant say for sure but I reckon that there will pretty much be Fk all in it. I wonder after all this bickering if a few Clio 182 Cup drivers will start driving up the asses of the regular 182 drivers to try and prove a point - (get out of my way mentality- cos my car is faster) - a mini war if you like. Anyway I hope not cos both cars are sweet.

What is funny though is that on my way to work the other morning I overtook a few cars (I wasnt booting it (dual carriage way)) and one of them happened to be a 1.2 8v clio (dark blue). Anyway the person in this motor pulled out and started to drive really fast (for an 8v) as if he was wanting to over take me ????? He must of been screwing his car to death cos I wasnt booting it but was still going reasonably quickly. He kept this up for about 3 miles, round a few roundabouts and into the estate where I work. I remember chuckling to myself - what is this guy on. I think he must of convinced himself that his car could easily keep up with a sport - just wonder if he was down the pub bragging about it that night. Shame really cos I could have booted it but didnt realy want to embarass the guy. Really puzzling experience:confused:

its all relative really, I love my 182 with cup packs and would never buy a 182 cup as I like my creature comforts and would really miss them.

BUT, if we compare the 182 cup to the CTR which many suggest is its biggest rival, the 182 cup then actually looks quite well specced.

Neither have leather, neither have xenons, the ctr doesnt even have fogs or AC as standard so when the two are compared the cup looks good.

Us 182 full fat owners are spoilt really with the level of spec we have which is normally found on expensive luxury cars!

I am dreading the day when I need to replace mine and get another car with the same performance and spec it would be the next RS clio, but even that isnt going to have the spec of the current one, climate xenons etc will be extra like the 225 megane:()

Has anyone thought that someone like me doesnt want a leather interior? I thank the Renault gods that theyre making the 182 Cup because my lady hates leather and I wouldnt be allowed a 182 in the future unless the Cup existed!

Thing is you can have your creature comforts with the 182 cup, how many cars on the road have the spec of the 182 cup? Not many not even bmws unless you spend a fortune on the optional but necessary for resale extras.

Dont get me wrong both are great cars becasue eh..well they are the same car lol!

20 kg is nothing imagine a 182 with half a tank of petrol and a 182 with a full tank, that is the difference, or a 182 cup with a full tank and a std 182 running low and hey ho the tables have turned and the std 182 is the faster one!
