182 passed MOT but rear exhaust boxes corroded

  Clio 182
mentioned as an advisory thing - but what are my options and how much is this likely to cost??

:dapprove:

and why are MOT's so bloody expensive anyway...

looks like you were ok in the lottery of renault failures!

keep a lookout on ebay etc, sometimes i see standards ones go on after an aftermarket has been put on the car...

My exhaust went ages ago, it'd fail for the cat (come June when mines due) which also corrodes badly if it weren't for my local friendly MOT man :quiet:

No point getting a renault exhaust as they hold water and it'll just happen again. 24k I think was the magic number for me.

Stainless steel aftermarket exhaust is cheaper than a new Renault one anyway.

A lot of 182's are failing on emissions now they're hitting 3 years old.

RSR in Croydon in the end, just off the Purley Way (RSR in Sutton had fitted the tyres I got last year from mytyres and they seemed fairly ok), plus I had a lot on today and just needed to go somewhere fairly close.

I deal with Rod @ RSR Sutton alot & the company is pretty decent tbh ;)
Glad it passed

I had mine done the other day passed with flying colours, although I was a bit worried about this cat issue that few seem to have had!!

I'm on just under 27k so I guess not bad for the exhaust?
I'm not sure how long mine will hold out for, I guess it's not too bad or it would have failed it. Not sure what to do *sigh* Put a nice new stainless steel one on the mortgage I guess!

I've got the emissions print out but cant make sense of it!

Ah cool, good to know, it was a bit "manly" in there but the guys were cool in both branches.

Dont do what i did and leave it till it falls off 200 miles from home, worst drive ever that was + looked a right c**k with the noise it made.

Tough call, Karen. I'd prefer to stick with an original Reno replacement, but as others have said, aftermarket ones are supposedly cheaper.

If anything, the 182 is really, really muted with it's exhaust note. The choice of having something a bit louder would be nice, I suppose?

I have sort of wanted something a bit bigger and slightly louder I admit lol - I just couldnt justify the expense before but now I have no choice - why do Renault charge so much though for a bog standard one :S

Captive market, I guess?

I'm 'hoping' that the 18 miles each-way I do going to work will heat the exhaust enough to reduce the risk of corrosion. Then again, that's applying logic to a Reno part. Since when did that ever work? ;)

Ah so would mine be more susceptible to corrosion as I don't use the car often?

How about the btb cat backs that fmp is selling mate? These are lovely, and well built. I wouldnt trust anything like magnex/ blueflame/ k-tec/ milltek etc, as for every good one, seems to be a bad one that rattles/ doesnt fit.

I hadn't seen the thread, did a quick scan yesterday so maybe missed it.

What are considered the best exhausts these days??
If anyone has any prices, would be grateful to know what sort of cost I'm looking at :)

Possibly? It by no means a hard-and-fast rule, but a quick tootle about in your car and switching the engine off, wouldn't give it enough time to build up sufficient heat.

The heat, in theory, should evaporate any unburnt deposits left in the system when you switch off.

I could however, be talking pure kack!

mine failed on emmissions, dodgy lambda sensor.

If you want a replacment exhaust Karen, I know a man who has a few, Mike@Rentech has a load he has taken off peoples cars to fit aftermarket ones so i'm sure he could sort you out.

thanks

What causes the 182's to fail on emissions?? or do you mean the sensor caused it? (sorry Im clueless!).

Thanks, will def bear that in mind and think about that option :) I only live at the other end of the A3 too.

The lambda sensor (exhaust gas oxygen sensor) balances the fuel mixture, a forcked one will cause the car to run rich/lean, so = MOT fail

Ah thanks :)

Where abouts in the country are you, isnt there a Reno specialist close by?

I'm in South London/Surrey. Yep sure to be but from what others are saying a Renault one may not be the best option?

No i said specialist, ktec, angelworks, yozza, rentech etc, not the monkeys that work in the dealerships.:)

Someone that will fit and supply a quality stainless cheaper than any REnault standard jobby.

182 + Girl Driver + Aftermarket Exhaust = Very Sexy....

Milltek IMO would be perfect for you. Not expensive, nice note/burble.
