182 Petrol light on - How much fuel?

  A silver one
As above really.

I've just been driving home from work and the petrol light came on. Just wondering if anyone knows how much fuel is in the tank?

cheers,
Matt

turn the ignition on whilst holding the trip button in (the button on the wiper stalk) then press it a couple of times and it will tell you how many litres are in your tank. dont know how accurate it is though.

Never ever ran any of my 3 clios (2x MK2, 1 MK3) right down to the wire but on my old 182 it was saying around 5 miles to go and the fuel pump was starting to buzz..

My worst nightmare running out of petrol. I don't like to go anywhere without more than enough to get to the nearest filling station. When I get down to half a tank, I fill it up.

I'm the opposite, i always wait until the fuel light flashes up before filling up.

usually 30-40 miles but if the recent top gear fuel consumption "race" was anything to go by, you could get more depending on how accurate the gauge is in the first place.

Cheers guys.

Did 7 miles with the light on and it's about 10 miles to the petrol station near work, so fingers crossed I'll have plenty in the tank.

for my everyday comute i only put 10 quid in a day. simply becasue this will make the car lighter therefore saving fuel ;) been doing this for a few months now and i have actaully saved money :)

Drive steady and you'll be fine.

It's a 1 gallon warning light btw, which is nearly a fivers worth of fuel.

I just wait till the light comes on then put some fuel in first chance I get. I never fill up either. It's like having an extra person in the car lol

Light came on when I was on track few months ago (forgot to keep an eye on the fuel gauge ) , managed to do a couple of laps then crawl to the petrol station around 20miles away.

It'll go much further than you would think

The most annoying thing is the computer on the miles to go thing says ----.
When you really need to know it doesnt tell you! Who cares when you have 450 miles left when you fill!

I always fill up before the light comes on as I don't want any crap at the bottom of the tank to be pumped through.....

I've never understood this. Petrol is taken from the bottom of the tank right? So unless the 'crap' is floating on top of the petrol in your tank, I don't see the logic. Old wives tale TBH. Fuel filters FTW.

+1 Roy about the fuel going from the bottom

With the added cost of fuel and time stopping at the station every day I'm not sure that's worth it somehow.:S
