182 poor mpg

  CX-7,westfield,ix20
Basically, I fitted my yozzasport decat pipe on saturday and since then my mpg as got significantly worse!

Now I was fully expecting a slight decrease but it has gone from and average of 24mpg ish (pure town driving, short journeys etc) to 19mpg ish now!

There is also a noticable smell of fuel from the exhaust (from outside the car) when idling and I can smell it when I put the foot down whilst driving with the window open aswell.

Is this normal with the decat's on 182's or do you reckon I have some other problem that has happened at the same time as changing the cat for decat by pure coincidence?

One thought I had was that the sensor that was in the cat and now in the decat is damaged? Would this cause poor mpg?

Any help appreciated

Cheers,

David

you were only getting 24!... I average about 32 (not driving too hard obviously)... I have to be thrashing it to get it that low!

I have a cat back prospeed with the OE cat on it and I notice a more distinct petrol smell too... I think its got something to do with the manifold :-/ (im sure someone will correct me)

Aye, 24mpg when going to and from work. sat in traffic most the way etc so about right.

Normal driving (ie. on proper roads i get low 30's)

tbh seems about right

The 24 is about right for my commute etcbut should it have gone down to 19ish since fitting the decat for the same journey etc??

Seemed a bit much to me?

On the plus side...decat pipe sounds ACE :)

I fitted my yozza decat on saturday too. I managed 39mpg (yes you read that right) doing 70mph cruise control on the motorway. Took it off the motorway and drove it properly, now down to 32.

I usually get about 24mpg too, 19mpg is a bit low but depends on how you drive, how long your stuck in traffic. As for the smell of fuel, i get it a bit, not in the cabin though unless im sat in traffic, possibly a leak where the decat is?

I find having a nice sounding exhaust will reduce the MPG tenfold... purely because you're flooring it everywhere to hear the noise!

I don't think I've been driving it any differently :S

The mileage covered since filling up and getting the new mpg reading has simply been to and from work which is pretty much traffic all the way so no chance to floor it.

There's a distinct smell of petrol to and wasn't sure if this was normal with a decat on the clios?

Mine sounds exactly the same, possibly a squint louder, what setup have you got?

I've got a powerflow cat back aswell - and before anybody slates powerflow this was purchased from a very good powerflow manufacturer so is very well made lol.

It is slightly louder now but the decat has changed the 'note' of the exhaust and it sounds like a fair beast now. Delighted with the noise :)

MPG appears to be ok as well after all. I reckon I must have filled up at a different time in the week so the computer was working out my average purely on my commute whereas it had previously worked out my average over the weekend etc (much higher) and this had just decreased slightly throughout the week to my usual 23/24.

Reason I say this is that I reset my computer and drove when there wasn't traffic and it appears to be normal - whoops lol

If driven exactly the same MPG should improve not get worse. The extra fuel smell is all those contaminents which are now getting into the atomosphere i like it on mine though smells raw

19 mpg is way too low. I'm averaging 26 mpg round town (no mods fitted) 41 mpg easy drive on motorway.

I don't like the smell of fuel you say you're getting. Overfueling perhaps. Seek advice, contact a speacialist.

Where you get the Powerflow from mate ?

Turriff Tyres ? ?

Aye...turriff tyres bud.

3rd exhaust I've had from them and never been dissapointed with them.
they really listen to what you're after and then the guy that does it does a good job like.

Good drive out aswell lol

Even when canning mine 29mpg is the lowest I generally see

gutted for you

If you're smelling fuel and getting poor mpg could be a leaky tank? Mine had a tiny split but it stank of petrol after running and if you sat for a long time in traffic through the aircon...:dead:

Perhaps it was damaged when fitting new parts...?
