182 Post ’Run In’ Service

Hi guys

Whats the deal with the 1000ish mile service on 182s? Just picked mine up today and Im sure it wont be long before Im up around the 1000 mile mark. I remember in my old Saxo VTR having to take it back to Citroen after 1000-1500 miles to replace the oil after run in but the manual in my 182 doesnt mention a thing about it?? Just every 12000??

What is the best thing to do?

I did an intermediate oil and filter change at 6k (halfway before its 12k service)... but you dont "need" to.

Depends on what sorta miles you are planning on doing. I do 30k a year, so leaving the sump until 12k for the engine to "bed in" was kinda pointless...

Picked up my Meg 225 week before last, and asked same question, they said wait until 9k (which is halfway before its first 18k service).

I found that my 182s engine didnt really settle in until over 2k anyway.

I had an oil and filter change done on the 172 at 6k but dont think Ill bother with the 182, the oil that came out was spotless. Everyone seems obsessed with oil changes on here. My old company Focus got its services at the correct intervals and never once had any problems and the oil always came out clean, even with me thrashing it to death and doing a lot of miles. I think things have moved on a lot these days. Look at the yanks, they have cars that dont have to be touched for up to 100k!!!!

The oil came out my 172 like treacle and full on lumps at 3k, up to you really, Id decided I was changing the oil @ 3k long before I saw the state of it, well saw the state of it as I removed it! lol
