182 power loss - possible link

I have noticed that my juddering power loss only occurs on a low tank (amber light) after slowing or braking abrubtly. If I keep her topped up with more than 1/4 tank of Optimax, I dont get this power loss.

Just thought Id share with those who have had the same problem. I guess the fuel line from the tank comes from an area that can be sucked dry under braking on low fuel,and leave an empty section of fuel line for a few moments?

sorry for the off topic question.. but how many miles do you get out of the 182 when the light comes on? i personnally dont get that far with probably only one or two notchs left on the display... i normally get between 220-250 miles on a tankful of opitmax at about £30-£33...

as for juddering under braking with low fuel - possibly the the last bits of fuel are sloshing around so not enough goes in?? that is my novice response to that!

I never go far without finding a Shell garage after the light comes on dude. Plus I never have more than half a tank in there for weight reasons Id fill up for a long motorway trip though.

Its called fuel starvation.

tbh i got it on my old 1.2 but never on my 182, get it checked.

normally get 30 miles on orange light but i will never find out again not after last time ran out of fuel on a roundabout in my first month of having the car imagine what people must have been thinking a 54 plate and causing the biggest traffic jam in northolt never starve ur motor

Never had this problem but I always fill up when just below the last notch so before the light comes.

Get about 220 - 260 miles out of a tank

Had this on my cup the first month l got it.The light came on and after that l did about 20 miles max.I was doing 80 in the outside lane of the m60 and as l came off at whitefield it cut out.

Really u should never leave it to go near the red, or the light to come on..... Just think what it is sucking up out of the bottom of the tank,

Petrol? Dirt? Water? Water and dirt would be at the bottom of the tank anyway and surely closest to the fuel line at all times? Not being funny, just never really understood this bottom of the tank thing.

i never fill mine up without the light on and normally go about 30-35 miles after the light comes on.

Full fresh batch of fuel everytime i fill up is the way I see it.

Me too! Never bought into the old wives tale about the crap at the bottom of the tank - like normally the fuel is taken from the top of the tank until you get low or something

I get anything between 220-280 per tank,liam do you motorway drive a lot or do you just drive THAT SLOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yer all depends how u drive tbh, u can get 400 miles out of a 182 if you are that slow.

i used to be 265-290 but since reading some driving tips from this forum i got 340 from my last two tanks!! plus stopped horsing it all the time - really helps

i do a lot of steady driving but do use the revs.

what do you mean by horsing it?
