182 problem....

  BMW 535D
...ive noticed over the past few months (including summer months) that sometimes when i put my foot down in my 182, i get a little bit of steam/vapour coming from the exhaust and all over the rear windscreen.

my first thoughts were head gasket, but my coolant levels havent dropped ever! and my temperature gause always stays at the same point regardless.

its not oil smoke like you'd get from a head problem, just water vapour :S

any1 else had this with 182s? or care to hazard a guess as to what, if any, the problem is :)

btw, obvious answer is condensation, but i got this in the summer, warmer months aswell, not just in winter.

hmmmmmmm

its just where the hot exhaust air heats up a cold rear window. nothing to worry about, alot of people complane about it to renault lol

It's quite normal; water condenses in the exhaust, and when you drive erm, enthusiastically, shall we say  the water is blown out of the exhaust, and ends up on your rear window.

I look at it this way; it's the sign that you've driven the car "properly!"

  Black 182 + Recaros
I just picked up my new 182 and this happened. The previous owner only drove a few miles everyday.

I'm guessing that this wouldnt happen if you drove the car hard (ish) everyday.

Right ?

It would probably happen less; the more you 'rag' it, I guess the more you'll clear out anything in the exhaust.

However, on cold mornings, you'll still find some residue in there which will be cleared out when driving 'enthusiastically' shall we say...

Sometimes referred to as the "supersoaker". Get the oil warmed up, then take advantage of the cold morning air and give it the beans.

All in a safe fashion obv ;)
