182 really is a devastatingly quick...

...B road eater. Seriously, Ive read here from some guys that the novelty wore of with their Clio Sport...all I can say is you guys arent using the right roads. You commit to this car and will reward you with a f**king huge beaming smile. I mean commit...drive it HARD (within your own limits on a private road). Ive yet to find the limit of this cars cornering ability - just chuck it in and it growls and pulls you out the other end unscathed, at stupid speeds.

Ive had this car for a few weeks now and I f**king love it...its so eager...feels so light and frenetic. Im learning how to drive it at about the same rate the car is becoming faster and more eager to rev.

Basically what Im saying is, its by no means the last word in drag race speed, but its a fookin formidable road tool in the right hands. For a B-road bash youd better have something pretty special to leave it behind.

a ditch might just slow it down though, so be carefull because that back end can jump out unexpectedly on you and bite you on the ass

just dont get over confident and put it in a ditch and through a hedge. someone off of here has rolled theirs, they were lucky and walked away.

*sorry for coming over all old manish*

Fortunately I barrel rolled my first ever car into a hedge on the first day I ever drove it, and ended up hanging from my seatbelt upside down facing the other way - so Ive kind of been fairly cautious ever since...I spose my idea of fast is a bit more conservative than some others

dont mean to piss on your parade mate, but the old cliosport can catch you out for no reason, its usually when you back off on a sweeping corner.

Nah fair play mate, all advice is welcome - I dont pretend to be the best driver, but I am having fun getting to know the car.

ahh well you could be ok, but i do tend to be carefull around corners since nearly loosing it once in my old cup (mind you that didnt have abs, esp etc)

  Embarrassed to say

I agree its an amazing car. The tyres on the 182 are bloody good in this weather far better than the contis i had on the 172 cup.

anyhow, how you liking the clio apart from the speed

Totally love it to bits mate sh*t interior included - I feel comfy in it and it jiggles about like a roller skate, whilst also feeling smooth. It not so much the speed that I like, more the fact I dont need to lose any for an evarage corner.

Bizzarely I still dont have any cabin rattles to speak of. When the cabin is cold it can feel a bit creaky sometimes but generally she feels pretty well screwed together really (touch wood)

lol, give it a few miles and they will start, but i found that removing trim and packing them out with silicon/ sponge etc (especially the centre console with the lighter) makes the rattles go completely

Glad to hear your liking the 182 experience my friend :D Still love driving mine, even too and from work, and I have no rattles except for the speaker covers!!!

Is it possible to accidentally spin a RS clio with ESP turned on? I got a bit enthusiastic on a long sweeping corner and the back seemed to come out a LONG way without the ESP doing much, I’m sure my trusty right boot saved the day!

glad youre still enjoying it Roy you hyper active b*****d lol

ditto the comments above really just dont push it too far, roads are still very greasy and even when dry theyre very "green" and it only takes a patch of not quite dry or not as grippy tarmac to result in you having a tank slapper or heading into the scenery.

am i the only person onthe forum to find the 182 "average to good"?????
poss me, im on the lookout for something else, but i am struggling to find anything as new for the same money thats as quick etc

I did a trackday and especially while I was learning the track (early laps) made quite a lot of errors, inducing:

lifting off once on a 100 mph+ corner (the left hander @ bruntingthorpe after the home straight

Being forced onto the grass while overtaking a cooper

breaking far too late a couple of times and being forced to take counter measures which were far from ideal

despite that the car never lost it, esp went hyper on several occasions, other cars fell all around but the 182 did not break/spin. Thought it was remarkable at the time. Especially when a race tuned cooper with slicks overtook me then promptly span on the following corner :)

i remember fishtailing down a country lane one lunchtime, later found a nail in my tyre but im sure it must have been just me, being a tw*t and nearly binning it.

Think thats near on impossible! I thought my 182 was good when it was standard but now that i have ditched some of the interior, fitted buckets and harnesses, prospeed exhaust etc just seems to make the car into a completely different beast! I love it and think its awesome!

Roy Munson i know exactly what u mean!!! I have had the cup for 5 months now, and being so young i have taken it very easy with learning the car, but now im really confident with it, last night without telling a driving tale i was flying down these roads, just pointed it to the corner and let the smile get bigger and bigger, No one could keep up! :D x 100000000000

what is it you have against the 182 fred as a standard car?

I keep seeing you say the same thing but I know ytou are into modified everything, for a standard car do YOU really think it is that bad?

After seeing the pros throw them around at brands I dont think there is anything wrong with the cup suspension, there wasnt much could out corner them.

There are other cars just as good and just as quick out there, but for a brand new car out of the showroom, the Clio Sports are difficult to beat, especially for the money...

a sobering thought there. I think with the weather being like it is its advisable to try and ease off just a little until summer comes.
