182 - Service Light/Oil Level

Ive had my 182 for 6 weeks now and covered 2.5K, Last night when I started her up the service light came on and a message about the oil level was displayed!

I checked the oil level and its above the minimum level but could probably do with a top up.

It was parked with the nearside on the curb so the car was on a slope, I pressume this could affect the level.

Is this normal after 2.5K miles for the oil level to be topped up?, it hasnt been driven too hard, im averaging about 34mpg and most of my miles are motorway miles.

I checked the manual so I know waht type of oil it requires, what brand do Renault put in as standard so I can top up with the same?

The same happened to me last week after 5500 miles in my 182.

I topped up with some Elf 5w-40 and its been fine since

I got my top up from the dealer as i wanted the same oil,it didnt cost much and i only used a bit.

Completely normal to use a litre or two while its running in.

Cheers chaps, very helpful, ill nip up the dealer at lunchtime and get a couple of litres.

mine used quite a bit up until its first oil cghange at 6K. You dont have to get this done but I did, and some others do. Never used a drop since.

I battered mine. No running-in at all. Had the oil changed at 1000miles and it hasnt used any since.

Just went to Renault in Derby to get some Elf 5W40 and they dont stock it (Bloody Typical), they only stock Castrol and didnt recommend I mixed it.

Anyone know where I can get some from in the Derby area?

when m,ine needed topping up i just put some Shell 5w40 in mine and is ran fine. Renault dealers dont even use Elf, they use whatever they can get their hands on cheap. Mine uses 0w40 oil for renaultsports!
