182 Suspension Knock

I just picked my 54 plate 182 from the local Renault dealers after i had noticed a knock coming from the front off side corner,it seemed to be more noticeable when in such as car parks in first gear.They have told me that it needs to have the "strut top modification" done to rectify the prob. Has anyone had this mod and if so what do they actually do?

have search on the forum mate its a common problem with the engine mount.

they tighten it up and adjust its position

That is not the Strut Mod, im not sure what they do but the top strut fouls on the dody work somewhere and they cut a bit away as far as i could work out so that it gives clearance, had mine done last week has worked, but also i found it was actually the engine mount that made the noise, if you loosen the four bolts and straighten the engine mount up so therre is even gaps between the rubber bits and the metal bracket, this has cured my knocking, do a search and you should find some pics to explain.

Why does the 182 need the same mods as the 172 did. Surely Renault should have fixed these faults.

The strut mod is where they grind out the cup section of the top mount. My 172 has had it done 3 times, it cures it for a while but it comes back slowly over a few weeks although this time it is lasting a while.

I swear i wont buy another renault.......until about 5:30 when i drive mine again.

thanks for that,i have just been reading the thread where quite alot of people have been having the same problem and the problem seems to point to the top engine mounting,i have looked at mine and found that it is as far out of centre as it could possibly be,so this could be the problem dont you all think???

Ive had that done and it did absolutely NOTHING. Its going back in on Wednesday and Im telling them about the right hand engine mount!

Mike ... are the drivers side mounts the same on the 172s and 182s? Any changes ever made to uprate them at all? Fact that 182s seem to be having problems suggests that nothing has been improved.

YAY my knocking noise is finally sorted! BIG thanks to Shermy (Mike172sport) at Liningtons you are a !!

The noise had got REALLY loud - it was something loose in the suspension, and is now as quiet as a mouse...hurrahhhh!

Mike where is liningtons? I may have to make a trip! my dealer want to replace the gearbox mount!!! I said leave it B n fixed it with a bit of sponge between the rubber and the mount!

Hey Mike where do I stand on renault fixing rattles? Im gonna take my clio in for the alarm 3 beep thing soon and was just gonna mention the rattles and see if theyve come accross those particular ones (boot, drivers side air vent) before. Dont expect them to do a lot bowt them but never know?

Rattles etc are covered under warranty for 1 year after that a contribution will need to be made by you.

The 3 beeps alarm is a known fault, you need to tell your dealer to contact Cobra as they have a solution to it.

hmmmm i was thinking about getting a 182 but it sounds like they are bad as the 172s for dodgey build quality!!!
