182 Trophy or 200

I'm debating whether to buy a brand new Clio 200 but am wandering about how it compares to the 182 Trophy. I've test driven a Clio 197 and it was awesome, so my guess is that the Clio 200 is a much better overall package than the 182 Trophy.
 
200 Loved the one i test drove felt 10X better than my 182 so guessing it feels 7x better than a trophy.
 
Speak to the Swiss guy who just picked up the new 200 black and white after owning a trophy. If they still made the trophy new i would own one over my 200 as they are one of the best clios ;) but with a warrenty the 200 wins hands down for me!

From what I've read on here coming out of a CTR into a 182 will be a bit of a shock (comfort / build quality etc).

Only way to be sure would be to try them all.







Then pick the 200 ;)

Tough one for me, I'd probably go for the trophy TBH and pocket the change.
 
I was looking at a similar comparison and the 200 is a different world (even quite a change from the 197) :)
 
MadUSA1 is the swiss guy called who had the Trophy and just picked up his 200

Massive difference in running and purchase costs. Get a Trophy for 7k and 200 for 14k. And 35mpg vs 25mpg. If I could afford it and justify it I'd get a 200.
 
You will def get more than 25mpg in a 200, mine has averaged between 31-36mpg on a tankfull with mixed driving. The depreciation however will be more of a concern in the comparison :o
 
Well, that's MUCH higher than people I know with them. One lad is getting low 20's. The 197 will only do 32mpg on the motorway from comments on here so that seems odd to me.
 
My 197 averaged 28 ish mpg. My Cup with the same use is 38! eerrrrr! So how many gallons does the Mk2 and Mk3 hold per tank?
 
First two tanks fulls I did nearly 1000 miles on a trip between Ipswich and Lyon in France, the trip said 33mpg but in reality on the fill up and calculate it was actually 34.5mpg. The trip computer has not been accurate in favour of the car once (now on 2200 miles), although it is pretty close.

It could be I never use the car for short journeys, I walk to work and whenever it gets used it's usually a minimum of 10 miles :approve:
 
I also run all my cars on Optimax. Most of my driving is A/B roads. I drive enthusiasticly. My old Cup (3 years ago) used to average around 33 ish, 197 was pretty much bang on 28 all its life. Steve (sbv116) averages about the same in his 200 Cup
 
Nice one, so in reality the figures you quoted are effectivley the best you'll ever get with relaxed driving to and from a long distance location. 34 on that is a little thirsty.

However, if I was doing f**k all miles it wouldn't be a problem as imo they; look great, go well, lovley little touchs like the yellow rev counter, handle brilliantly, great brakes!

Just it's hard to justify, well it was for me as it was £14k for a 200 and £7k for the T. I'm sure the 200 is better in alot of ways but not twice as good, in value terms. It would also be alot more expensive to run which was an off putter.

Also, if the 200 purchase and running costs are achievable then maybe you could look wider afield like a R26 or Focus RS mk1. I think the 200's stats push it into competition of alot of other cars.

I toyed with the decision of Trophy -v- 200 for a while, decision forced itself because the Trophy I looked at in Halsted (Essex) sold before I decided :(

No idea how bad the depreciation is going to be but it's certainly going to be more of a hit than the difference in economy.
 
Well, it'll only really cost you if you decide to sell it within the 2-8 year period. Keep if for long enough and it's a cost you can justify as it will level out and if you put the loss over the period it should be fairly reasonable. I think 1k a year is "reasonable".
 
Who buys a hot hatch for fuel efficiency?! Thing is, no 172/182 is going to look as good as a 197 or 200 - sure they might look OK now, but what about in 2 years time? Also, the 1*2's I've been in haven't felt as solid as my 197 (never been in a 200, so can't comment).
Plus, you don't have to get one brand new, why not get a nearly new and let someone else take the depreciation?

No one. But the thing about hot hatches is they should do everything reasonabley well.

And when you say "hot" - in relative terms they're still pretty slow so low 20's from a 2.0 hatch is shocking.

Also, ppl will still consider fuel. I mean even EVO and a few mags said they're f**king heavy on fuel.
 
Don't get me wrong Jamie, I didn't mean totally disregard fuel, I just meant it's never going to be a Toyota Prius on fuel is it? Personally I wouldn't make that one of my main considerations, but everyone's different.
 
200 all day every day. I couldn't live with a 182/Trophy as the engines are absolutely gutless below 5k, so the hit in MPG is worth it.
 
Yeah sure, I agree totally.

I mean, I don't buy a car with it as a major consideration being a hot hatch but it's just I think the 200 comes really unstuck here.

If I wanted to spend that much on fuel doing 25 or whatever to the gallon I'd get a Focus RS or R26. It's just for a hot hatch I think it's too much. That's where I think it's unreasonable.

I wonder how people on here get 28mpg in their 197. 26mpg is the best I have got and that is driving like a granny. 24mpg is more on the mark and the smiles are much bigger.

Having owned a CTR, the 197 fuel economy is crap (and that is being polite). Question is what effect did it have on my decision to buy one.......NONE.
