182, no question. There was some girl on here a while ago, adamant that the ST was quicker, and the 1*2's were dangerous, her BF crashed one IIRC.

I have other week going down to southampton

my 172 was keeping up all the way and i was looseing him but fort i would stop when i got to *30 lol

And that was against a paramedic ! lol i could tell as he had his uniform on lol

On paper the 182 is quicker and i can't see any reason why a Fiesta would stand any real chance with equally matched drivers, but i've no experience to back it up. I'm hoping people are going to prove me right?...

Oh dear. 1 weighs 1175 ish with 150 BHP the other 1080 ish with 180BHP... what would you predict the outcome to be?

I've just got rid of my 172, and my mates just bought a 57 plate ST, I drove it around Buxton, the pull is no way near as good as the 1*2's

Nice car tough!

My mate used to have an ST and he always talked about something called 'Blue Fin'? Could one of these 'Blue Fins' make any real difference?

blue fins a chip mate. could make a difference but i doubt it would match 180bhp and even if it did the clio still carries alot less weight

Just a chip?! He used to talk about 'getting it Blue Fin'd' like it was a full on tuning kit (exhaust, induction, ECU, cams etc)

The Fiesta seems to be more of a luke warm hatch when you actually sit down and compare the figures with it's rivals.

Apparently the Zetec S handles better anyway...

i mind the day i picked the clio up i had a boy try to keep up. he failed miserably.:coffee:

  a turbo'd yellow car
my mate has a tuned st! remaped zorst induction 190bhp he says! it was like racing an old zetec s! just left him for dead!

they have many tunning packs for them! 2.5k gets you 200bhp 0-60 6.8secs! now isn't that what a 182 those standard ;)

my 172 was faster than my golf gt tdi, my golf gt tdi bums fiesta st's. therfore fiesta st's are slower than 172's

i read sumwhere that some made a the st a 182bhp version but they had to spend 8k on it and the 182 still beat it round a track

The 182 is considerably quicker. End of.

...my 1.6 keeps up with them

lol. b****cks.

Jeez - £8k? Dunno how that works. The ST engine is great for good power gains and not much £££. I would say 180 could be had for about £600-700?

More like a couple of G's

I've got a Fiesta ST - 172/182/197 eats it alive tbh

Also, the Bluefin adds about 15BHP for £300, which isn't great. There are a fair few ST's around putting out 210/220BHP, but they have 2.3L engines in them - a ridiculously costly conversion for the same BHP/Tonne as a 182.

Fiesta ST is more of a warm hatch. Only reason I got one was the significantly cheaper insurance as I only had 1years NCB. Now, a 182/197 costs about £30 more.

I had insurance quotes the same on an st fiesta as 172's no idea why. Personally I think they are a nice looking car suposed to handle well, although zetec s handle better apparantly, think its due to wheel size, reasonable poke, pretty cheap.

I've heard they run crap as standard because of the positioning of the CAT, it never gets up to the proper temperature, nothing a decat couldnt sort out though.

  RS Megane DCi 175
Ahem - £1200. And that's not the cheapest - I admit I was a lil cheap though.

Plus labour?

lol. Ok - add £235 for fitting. But that's not the point as even with that you're not talking 'a couple of G's.

Nail on the head with warm hatch RussZS. It's more like the VTR to the VTS, great for newer drivers on insurance costs.

It doesn't compare to the 182 with respect to performance etc - I don't think it was intended too. It's only insurance group 13 - hence the young un's buying them and giving the car a bad rep. It's still the flagship Fiesta though, so you're analogy isn't quite right - ST = VTS / ZetecS = VTR. Gotta love £297 fully comp insurance though!

All IMO of course ;)

It's the manifold and standard airbox that are so restrictive in standard form. Moreso than what's standard on a 1.0 KA I was told - lol. That's why people get really good gains from not much ££. K&N gives a confirmed 11BHP!
You could be right about the CAT though - not heard that one.

I dont even bother giving it against STs. Waste of petrol. Some knob sat right on my arse the other nite in one then went round me on the dual carriageway thinking he had done me. Prick

2 of my good friends have one and the night i had got my 182 me and one of them was driving back towards where we live and at the lights he thinks he could show me up..i couldnt stop laughin when i blew him away..they aint slow but compared to a 182 i was suprised at how slow they were..but better build quality than a 182 and good lookin cars

  RS 172
Anyone ever come across an ST with that pack that you could add which took it up to ~180bhp? Or is it not out yet? Cost around £1000 as an option AFAIK?

  Megane R26
He means they are like VTR performance wise - both the VTS and 106 GTi are a bit quicker than an ST.

Ford never intended it to be a contender for the Hot Hatch crown, it was pitched at younger drivers with cheaper premiums, which the Grp13 classification highlights.

Also, I don't see the point in spending £2000 to give it the same power as a 182 - the 'mods' won't add any value, and you will get crap MPG and inflated insurance - just buy a 182!?

The other issue with them (linked to the cheaper insurance) is the amount of idiots twatting about in them thinking they own the fastest car in the world :(

Tossers. Gives us all a bad name...

It costs about £1800 PLUS labour...

The Rousch/Mountune upgrades, which are supported by Ford warranty?

I think they have only been released recently. Should be a nice used option in a few years... you can get Recaro's too.
