182 Vs ph1 on track?

  Clio 200 Black and White
I need a car for the 2009 trackday season...

Should I spend close to 3 grand getting my cup packed 182 prepped (cage, seats, etc) or should I trade down to a ph1 and spend the money I've saved on all the bits n pieces?

Will a ph1 feel as good on the track as my 182? I'm thinking specifically of resistence the understeer and throttle adjustability, since those are traits I love on my existing car. And what about straight line punch? Would a ph1 be up to it?

Any difference in reliability between the two?

to be honest i think a ph1 will feel better on track, mainly due to the smaller wheels, through personal experience i feel clio's feel better on 15inch wheels then 16s, though really i wouldnt want to sell a 182, buy a ph1 and spend all the money on modding it, the car wont be worth anywhere near what you will spend on it, will it be a road car or out and out track?

I have found the ph1 to be a bit more responsive on throttle due to its cable throttle as apposed to FBW on the 182

Hardly any different tbh, benefit of a PH1 is the cable throttle as said.

For track you should be running the same sort of set up on both cars any way. Stripped coilovers a set of 15s decent brakes ect.

So it weather you want to save money by selling your 182 and getting a PH-1, but on the other hand you know your 182 runs well ect.

You don't need to spend 3 grand. Just get the brakes sorted and a set of track wheels and tyres and spend the rest of the dough on actually driving/tuition or keep it as a contingency fund for the inevitably increased wear and tear or potential accident.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm going with 15's anywa so that's not really a decision point.

dzm - I will need to spend the 3k (tyres, cage, seats, harnesses) - I go on the track every week in the summer and there's no way I'm doing that without some decent safety gear.

I guess it's just down to personal taste. Thing is I know my 182 runs well and handles superbly on the track, so it'd be a real shame to chop it in for a ph1, only to be disappointed by the handling.

Find one in a dealer and go take a PH1 for a test drive or find some one local on here.

will do.

Baz, just noticed you have one of each - guess you're the guy to talk to then...

what are the differences? which is quicker round a track? does the ph1's nose cling on like the 182? Same 3-wheels anitcs? Same lift-off rear-steer?

you wont be disapointed with the handling chap, especially if your looking to upgeade your 182 suspension anyway

same 3 wheeling yup lol, and sale lift off, iv found its easier with a ph1, due to the smaller tyre sizes (running 195s instead of 205s) but thats only my opinion

Every time each has been timed different times come out, so id say if there was any differences i would say a track like combe i wouldnt say there would be any more than a second or so in it, much more the driver, there is so little to pick between all the 1*2 models

Standard 182 vs (nearly standard PH1) There was very little in it i always prefer the PH 1 to drive due to the cable throttle.

But its impossible for me to say cos my 182 is a standard road car where as the track car is a full track car now. AST coils ITBs ect so it is a beeter car on track

Jamesstone on here sorted out a mint ph1 track car, and ts very nearly finished, fitted with fixed buckets, fully stripped, coillies etc.

Bought it cheap as a pikey wagon sorted it out, and now its a lovely little motor and it goes likt sh1t of a shovel!

Unfortunately he is having to sell it due to money, time etc etc

Just a thought mate link

Thanks for the input guys, appreciate it.

In what way is the cable throttle superior?

I've living in Switzerland at the moment, so it's gotta be lhd...

I'll try one this weekend and make my decision then. Shame I can't pop to the track on the test drive... guess I could ;)

with the cable throttle there is no wait for the throttle to open, meaning throttle control is better, something far more usefull on the track than on the road tbf

  Turbos.
Find a Ph1 that isn't shagged, it will probably cost you more in the long run...

I'd just do reversible mods, then you know some money you'll get back one day.
