182 vs RX8 (Not a dick head thread)

  clio 182
I rag mine all the time it's wot there for, my Westfield is 338hp per ton rag that to for the last 30k, drive it and enjoy the power

  Pug 206 SW, 172 CUP
There's a difference between ragging and abuse. A Clio wouldn't last 5mins if you start side stepping the Clutch, flat shifting or revving it to 8k Continuously with a raised limiter. What strange advice.

Your face would last longer if you took a hammer to it.

What the hell does a Westfield have to do with a Clio RS or an RX8. Unless Westfield do one that runs eithers running gear.

Sorry my bad English lol the point I was trying to make that you can drive a car hard with out breaking it ,even a powerful car ,if it's set up right ,,serviced , it's seems the guy is worried cars break if you drive them hard lol

Lol I know what you're trying to say, I aren't scared of breaking it but sometimes I just feel it isn't right or befitting to rag the s**t out of it in the name of curiosity

One mans driving hard and "ragging it" is another mans sunday stroll , you have to massively overengineer a westfield if you push it hard on track where as road abuse is nothing in comparison no matter how hard you think you drive

  clio 182
Agree it's took 15k and that's after buying it and 2 years of my life to sort the westfild out, that's why I bought the clio cheep fun and seems quite good on track with the mods on it, not as quick as the westfild but for 4k I'm loven it lol

15k on the westfield , you have a way to go till its properly track ready then ;-)
Have you added the extra bracing to stop the chassis snapping if you curb hop ;-)

To be fair thats not a joke !

  clio 182
It's not a track car, suspension and brakes are but it's only 205 hp , and your right it's way of race spec, but after racing bikes cars are tame so no point unless you have unlimited funds , so I just enjoy fast road trips
!

Please change the rollbar on the westfield , the standard bar is for nothing more than decoration

And build the right westy and its as much fun as a bike on track,

However you are right the budget to get it there is bigger

  clio 182
Oops I like the back lights bit gay I know but hay Ho the roll bar on westy has 8 bolts though it , it's the latter one ,did nearly go for a cage but getting in and out of my mates one is such a pain and as I'm an old git I can't be arsed took a bike engined car on track no faster then mine , and sorry nothing compares to a race bike on track, well for me anyway, lol

The RX8 won the national SCCA SoloII (similar to our sprints) two years running I believe, and I think that was in the box stock class, so they are no slouch, and would have needed ace roadholding and traction to achieve that. Very unlikely that any Clio's were competing of course, but plenty of MX5's, Boxsters, 914-6's. The class system in SoloII is not dependent on engine size, but on historic results, constantly updated, hence MX5's are up with seemingly much more powerful cars because of their agility and in-gear flexibility.

As a few people have pointed out, most of the time its the driver that makes the difference, especially at the like of Santapod, most races are won and lost off the line, its a very difficult skill to be consistent in, but if you want an idea of capable a decent clio is, looks how many vids there are of people at the ring, giving some decent motors a really hard time....

Most definitely. It's pretty shocking watching them eat things round tracks!

Id sell the trailer seperately , tis a nice car , i was the one who got the cage sorted for that one as it was in the first batch of 4.

Know it well

But thats a steep price

there were 2x RX8's at cadwell on 24th Jan, one guy could drive, the other was a bit crappy, but then it was damp and icy in places, and the clio is such a dominant monster in the corners it was easy to be a bit cheeky and push them until they both pulled over to let me past, however it took a little bit of effort on the straights to make sure I could corner right enough to get on the gas early and get the power on the straights, otherwise there wasn't a great deal in it down park straight and the start/finish straight.

If a 231hp RX-8 can't show clean heels to a 1*2 then the driver is clearly either a total virgin or having lunch.
Anyway, I know which one I'd rather have if there was a forced choice, and it wouldn't be French.

lol insurance.
wow group 2457238862
such rip off
much v-tec y0! ditch
Lol. It's just a debate I had with the guy at rotary revs, big rx8 specialist. He said they are no where near the rx8 but I called b****cks and me and my dad got talking about it is all.

through the corners the clio was absolutely f***ing mental... One of the RX8's spun in front of me at about 45mph and ended up going backwards on the grass. On the straights there genuinely wasn't much in it at all, I had no problem staying on his arse as they were a really great match, it was just they were braking a lot earlier and cornering slower. In fairness it was really slippy so if I'd been in the RX8 I would have been taking it steady and probably also ended up going backwards on the grass lol..

The two RX8's looked standard. Mine was 182 cup with K&N Panel filter and catback milltek on god awful hankook v12's with yellow stuff pads and old rubbish well-boiled brake fluid. Not to sound cocky but in the morning there wasn't a lot passing me. In the afternoon when it dried out, a lot of the faster cars started really pushing on (JDM Type-R Scooby in burnt orange was RAPID) and I started getting out of the way/sticking my indicator on so they could get through.

p.s. I didn't ask him to but one of the lads there with me timed me doing consistent 2'08'' laps.... Never gonna set the world on fire with a 182, but with better tyres, fresh brake fluid and have since had a re-map I really wanna crack the 2 minute barrier now. I was essentially identical pace to these lads in Trophy's

You can't track it and not push it to the limits ;)

It's a track day. You can do what you want. I see guys in ancient classics just blowing The cobwebs out fairly regularly. That's how you know a car is really fast as they're the ones that go home with all standard gear intact and still passed everyone.

  53 Clio's & counting
Agreed - I vary rarely drive more than about 8/10th's on track - I'm there to have fun, I personally am not worried about the fastest lap times, it's good to really push on, but I like to have a little in reserve just in case.
