  Clio RS 172
Just looking to see what people's thoughts are and to hear of any experiences ppeople have had, but from and unbiased point of view what is a 182 and a fiesta st like when compared speed wwise and acceleration etc?

Had a mate who's owned both and recons his st kept up with a 182 no prproblems

Thanks Matt

It would have to be the mountune packed one imo.

There's no comparison a fiesta st struggles to even keep up with a 106gti. A 182 tears an st a new ass.

Since 197s are no quicker than 182s I'll give my two penneth

i was out with a couple of mates a while back (200 and an st). I've never seen how quick Sts were so I was really shocked at how much quicker mine seemed... It felt like I could've run rings round it if I tried :/

from memory the st has breathing mods (filter and stainless exhaust), not mountune or anything

The fiesta is a good all round car, it looks good and handles well but is a bit underpowered compared to the clios, a mountune kit will see it 185 BHP but will still be a tad slower than the clio

I found the st a grower actually. The engine is disappointing and lacking any real fizz but once you get over that they do handle pretty well. But I'd take a 182 over an st. They can do anything an st can but better.

Having owned an ST and had it at different stages of modification, and driven an ex's 182, and obviously the 200 I own now. The 182 is faster lighter and nimbler. However with the mountune 165 and 185 kits the 182 doesn't get away until the twisties. The only real difference between the two mountune kits is over 90mph.

I thought fiesta st's were poor because of the power. But after being in one I'm pretty impressed, they are quick and a lot of fun. Can't compare to a 182 as I have a 197. Not as fun as mine but still very good.

I have just sold a Fiesta ST and bought a 182. The sale was due to financial reasons if I'm honest, the 182 cost half what I sold the ST for and servicing/repairs/general running costs appear to be a lot less, too.

A lot of people will tell you how slow and under-powered the ST is. Whilst they aren't quite as fast as a 182, they're still plenty quick enough to have some fun.

The 182 also has more grip in the corners/handles better. The ST is good too, but just not as good as the 182 for me.

Looks wise, obviously it's a matter of opinion, but the ST is my favorite of the two. They look great in frozen white especially!

The interior in the ST is a nicer place to be in my opinion. Although, the blue dash is not to everyone's taste. As standard, the ST comes with a Sony 6-disc CD player and sounds pretty impressive. Whereas, in the 182, I sometimes think if I put my iPhone on loud speaker it would sound better! 182's are nicely specced otherwise, climate control, air con, cruise control, auto lights/wipers, etc. These are all optional extras on the ST and most seem to have been specced without them.

The build quality of the ST is in another league. In 12 months of ownership, I never spent a penny on repairs and everything just seemed to work. There was also not a single rattle!

They are both great cars in their own way, I guess it just depends on what's a priority for you. I'd say get a good test drive in both of them and make your decision that way.

I have a 172 Cup and my mate has a 182 FF, our cars are near on identical in a straight line there's hardly anything in it.

Another mate of mine has got an ST and he unfortunately gets left behind... It's not like he's left trailing miles behind but the difference in performance is noticeable

Imo differences between all modern hot hatches arnt going to be massive in a short quick blast, but a little bit is a big difference when it comes to racing on a track over a few miles, this is when you see real differences.

The ST is a great all round car and plenty quick enough to have some good fun in. To answer your question however the 182 is a fair bit quicker in a straight line.

Exactly! On a track its a different story, but I was left a little disappointed if anything after our short blast. From what I've read I was expecting the difference to be mind blowing but it wasn't all that...

I will just state that it is possible he kept with a 182 if said 182 had it's cambelt changed by someone who didn't know what they were doing. ( bear in mind probably half the 1*2's our there have incorrect timing)

The garage I got my car from changes the belts for me when I got it, they took absolutely ages doing it. Didnt have the right tools, had to get a Renault "specialist" to come and help them. Makes me wonder....

  Inferno 182 & Saxo
My mate had one, I went out in in standard then in MR 165 guise I think it was and finally MR200. Only in the last spec did it feel quick and would have troubled a 182

My brother is buying an ST tomorrow, seems alright.
I had a test drive and they're not as exciting to drive as a Clio, but there's not a world of difference. A Clio is a sharper tool in all aspects to drive, but the ford is a nicer place to sit IMO.

If you want to buy a Fez ST, a close friend of mine is selling one thats in mint condiction and been to many car shows. He dont rag it either, usually drives like a granny.

I have had a Focus ST 225 and was running a few extras you could say (this was before they were 2 a penny), when it went in to have some work done they lent me the fiesta ST and i have to say :sleepy:boring, they should of made it more than 150bhp why did they just pop the mk1 focus ST 170bhp lump in it?

I sold the Focus ST and tried a few other things but have to say im over the moon with my 172 for the PRICE, MPG, INSURANCE and FUN FACTOR it knocks spots off the both ST's as a package.

  Shit little Yaris...
Young lad in a Fiesta ST (played with) near Pocklington - gave the ST220 a run for it's dosh.

Had a chat with him online and he did say - as standard it's a totally different car altogether.

I like the ST. A well pedalled one will be little in it with a 182 IMO on a twisty road. Will boil down to who has the least hammy fists and biggest balls/smallest brain.

Out and out the 182 is faster but credit where credit's due, the ST is a cracking little motor.

I came from a Fiesta ST to a 172. The Clio i find is noticeably faster from 3rd Gear onward's whereas the ST just ran out of breath. The ST was really good fun to drive and like most 'Fast' Ford's it sure liked to lift of oversteer when it could, the Gearbox in the Ford is a dream like all Ford's tbf, but the Clio feel's more of a precision tool, more serious, more special to drive, and has noticeably more grip when being 'Pushed'. Interior wise the Ford is a nicer place to be, less rattles etc... IMO in real world situation's there's not much in them performance wise. All my opinion of course.

I've been out in a st, much more linear engine which is good for daily driving, bit make it go past 6k and it turns into the asthmatic nerd on sports day!

That aside, the interior is abit more inspiring than the clio.
