182 what do do if you have a puncture?

  435D X-Drive
As the car i brought has no tyre foam i was wondering what others did in this situation?

Is it best to buy a wheel and put it in my boot, or is it best to buy the foam?

This is beggining to get worrying to me now just incase.

The foam is useless anyway.

Depends how far you're normally going if you want carry a spare the whole time. I'd take one I was doing a longer trip but around town/to a mates/to work, I'd probably just risk it and leave it at home.

Buy a can or two from Halfords/Tesco.

The foam only works if you've a small puncture - if the tyre is shredded, it's as useless for obvious reasons. Make sure your RAC/AA/GreenFlag payment is up to date !

Don't carry a spare in your boot. It'll fill it up completely as Clio boots are hopeless, and be a missile in the event of an accident. Would you want ~20kgs of wheel/tyre applied to the back of the head at 60mph ?

No. Me either.

I used the foam once and when I went to get the puncture repaired the tyre place said they couldn't fix a puncture after the foam had been used.

Instead of using the foam, why not buy a small 12v compressor from halfords (or even Asda).

They're not that big, take up the same amount of space as two cans of foam and you can keep pumping your tyre if you get a puncture.. unlike the foam which is, er, single use.

Or strip it, cage it, and have a spare wheel frame mounted in the boot so you can carry one at all times ;)

Don't worry about it !? Even my Grandad's Honda Jazz has no spare.

OEMs are cost cutting and weight saving, and fuel saving too... whats the point of carrying around 20kgs of steel which costs the OEM profit around for the life of the car... (rhetorical).

I have a 172 with no spare.
I've been driving almost 10 years and needed a spare wheel ONCE, and that was in a Mk1 Clio. Dam wheel had welded itself tight under the car at 4am so needed the AA anyway :rasp:

No room in my boot now for a spare lol

Just got my can of foam and put it in the boot. Also i forgot I have RAC cover if the worst happens.

Cheers

You could buy a spacesaver and fit a mount on the boot floor. Personally I wouldn't go anywhere without a spare wheel, too much hassle if things go wrong.

i had a spare and jack but i couldnt get the jack under my car as its too low and my wheel nuts are smaller than the renault tool so i just took it all out. Risk it. Breakdown cover ftw
