182_steve's FF 182 progress thread!

Not much to report on the Clio lately, just as well to be honest as I needed to 'chill out' a bit with it after all the big expense of the last couple of months - the car is running very nicely though and I have been using it a little more and keeping it clean and tidy as always. Re. the replacement gearbox that was fitted, now I've done a few miles with it, it's absolutely typical that I now have a bit of a crunch in 3rd BUT only when driving hard, something I never had with my old box - but when you drive normally, it's perfect, and I don't tend to drive it hard, so it really is not an issue and I have zero plans to do anything else gearbox related at this time.

In other news, yesterday (12th May) was my 2 years with the car! Crazy how time goes but I look back and it really is like a different car now so in some ways, it DOES feel like I've had it a while. Thought I'd go out for a good run out yesterday anyway and ended up doing around 130 miles, great fun! Just a shame it decided to throw it down with rain on the way back when I was still an hour ish from home but never mind. I cleaned it again this morning!!

I also went round to 73,000 as well yesterday so took a photo just as a record. That's all folks!

Also, thanks to @Louis I have a bit of period 'oem' to keep with the car!

And here's me just about to get a new engine fitted by them on my 182, should I be worried by any chance?!

What's that Renparts? If so, I wouldn't be able to comment on their fitting services as never had any dealings, all I know is that their mail order service on parts is the worst I've ever had re. delays and empty delivery promises

I really like the gold and like you say good to have options, I do think the Oz F1's would look awesome in silver as well but not as much of a difference to the turini's then ?

Thanks, I'll post on here what their fitting service is like if anyone is interested... May even be asking for specialists help soon, but we'll see.

Took the car along to a local classic car show today with my friend in his Reliant Scimitar, cracking weather and a huuuge turnout for a local one.......... amazed to see a Renault 5 GT Turbo there in grey as never see them around here anymore, turned out the old boy has had it for 24 years when I spoke to him. Always amazes me what's tucked away in garages around here!

172!!!!! Was your mouth out.......... ? haha

Yeah mate all good thanks, getting used to the PMS now, the rattles you do eventually get used to. A little.
Haha, i called it a 172 before! It's the colour and the fact im used to seeing it on turinis.

Life has been hectic lately and the Clio has taken a back seat so to speak - so I was looking forward to giving it a run up to this year's CSF on Saturday - which I now can't get to as something has come up. D'oh! But due to this and with a free day yesterday, I thought I'd get the car out anyway and give it a good run out up the coast as the weather was lovely! Despite this f'ing heat making yet another comeback, the air-con was ice cold so didn't really matter. Did just over a 100 miles and it never missed a beat, proving yet again that it can still put a smile on my face!

With this in mind, the MOT is due on the Clio at the end of next month, so I shall be getting that sorted at the start of the month all being well as I usually do - I am really hoping it sails through again this time as this would be bad timing with a big bill. Fingers crossed! I was looking back at the history the other day and i'd actually forgotten this car has never failed an MOT, it's pass, pass, pass all the way down. Which is great! But the clicking I've started noticing from the front makes me think ummmmm. We'll see! Anyway, photos from yesterday as quite frankly, it would have been rude not too! ?

Hands down, one of the best cars on the forum.

I’m sure it will pass it’s MOT, it would be a shame for an amber or red to ruin that lovely streak of greens :)

Thanks very much matey, that's very kind!

I thought that exact same thing too with the colours, as rather than get the huuuuge folder out, I just cheated and looked at the MOT history online - and it was green, green, green lol!

Needs the Turinis back on!!

I'm thinking about swapping them back round at some point yes, the Turini's have recently been washed and properly cleaned (fronts AND backs of course lol), so they are literally sitting in the garage with a cover over them, ready and waiting!

Looks great Steve, hope the MOT goes well. ?

Thanks, fingers crossed!!

100% it'll be a green pass.

Shame you can't make Saturday Steve.

The last clio pic is cool.

Thanks Mark, got my fingers crossed. We shall see! We are all the same come MOT time aren't we. I'm gutted about Saturday, I bought my ticket back in January? (start of the year anyway) and ALMOST made it!!!!!

Car looks great as usual, shame you can't make CSF especially as you have a ticket (I keep saying I am going to go but have never managed to buy a ticket ?, hopeless i am though) am sure MOT will go well ?

Thankya sir! Oh I know right? Second year in a row I've bought a ticket and then not been able to make it. Now going for 3rd time lucky!!!!!

MOT is now booked for September 11th at our Renault main dealer so we shall see what that brings! Would have liked it a bit sooner but that is as early as they could manage.

I've also just sold the standard 182 wheels that came with the car, something I had no plans to do, but to be honest they were just in the way and were never going back on the car in my ownership. The cool thing is, the previous owner bought them for his 'new' 172 after asking if I still had them and if I wanted to sell, so they've gone full circle there!

Made me think back to when I bought the car in May 2016 and even though they looked ok, the car overall is miles away now from what it was back then. Here we see the difference between May 2016 and April 2018 which only shows a small part of all that's been done to it in the last two years. I'm getting seriously close to having done 3,000 miles in the car now. I know, crazy!!

Was the advisory 'wheels too gold'?
:)

LOL! No, too much awesome can never be seen as a negative!

One comical note is that he DID try and fail me for my number plates - but was honest and talked to me about it! When I got them made up, I had them done as plain custom plates at Fancy Plates, therefore being legal with legal font etc but no borders, badges or the numbers on the bottom right - BS bla ba……….. apparently they should have that BS number but he looked through all the information he had and said it must have changed as there was nothing he could find to say it was an issue. So in the end, I didn't even get an advisory for it. Lovely jubbly - as my daily car has a set of them too LOL again with legal size and legal font, just plain!
