182's for funny money????

I'd be tempted, but its out of my budget! Plus I would have thought it's better to have one that's been used properly (but still looked after) rather than sat around. It'd be a bit of a shock to it's system :rasp:

Funny how sunflowers are near worthless now but I'd happily swap my 182 with all the goodies and the amount spent on it, extras etc. I really really want one.

I think I emailed OP a few weeks back....mine should be going up for sale soon, and its a totally straight car. I'm the second owner and had it for 7 years. Birchdown will no doubt vouch for it too (if you ask them nicely). But I won't be giving it away.

I've got a few 182's and Steve is right, good ones still fetch £3500. I won't be selling mine for a penny less!

The market is flooded with crap though. 100k plus, 5 owners, sketchy history, only one key.... It's just junk now.

The same as all walks of life, you get what you pay for.

  Inferno 182
Two weeks ago I paid £3400 for a 55 plate with full history on 56k. I have been looking for months from what started as a £1k budget 172 to knock about in my budget went up and up as there is some nails out there. Made my mind up I wanted something to keep for years as will be rarely used. Also wanted inferno with both cup packs, only 117 made but one came up eventually on ebay classifieds. Does need the belts doing though.

When i was looking for 172s and 182s it amazed me that a full service history to most sellers was 4 or 5 stamps in a book.

Go and see a williams and they come with A4 folders full of receipts.

Tells you something about something, probably.

Well i'm in the process of looking for a new job, which means I will have to hand back the company oil burner hence the early search for a replacement ;) I'm liking the look of DTM's 182's, not too far away which is good! Think 3k will be my max budget tho!

I've got £3,300 from my CTR's insurance but cant find anything that seems great value that ticks my boxes.

I dont want common silver/blue, I like cups (172 or // packed). Want FSH, low-ish mileage and not due a cambelt change in the next 24 months.

I'd of thought I'd have a few options but unless I go Arctic Blue or Silver, I'm a bit limited.

You are asking a lot here as cam belts are due every 4-5 years depending on how much you worry over them, what I would say is find a nice one that is potentially due a cam belt soon (a late cup would be due it's 2nd belt in the next year or so if it hasn't done mega miles) and use that to get the price down and then a CS specialist usually does them for around £400 mark, plus it gives you piece of mind knowing the belt is all done properly and you do have 4-5 years with a low service cost car that you wanted!

Rare 1 of 30 Petrol Blue 182, full fat, full Spax coilover setup, on 72k, cambelt and service done at great expense at 66k, K Tec goodies

I don't think I'm expecting too much. Theres a few RB cups out there that meet the criteria - If I go 182 I think I'd prefer just cup packed though. I could get Silver/Arctics meeting that criteria fairly easily but the colours bore me, ID paint obviously comes with a little premium. The 24 months is more for peace of mind - as long as it wasnt due in ~6 then I'd be fine (if the car was right)

I'm juggling a coupe of things (new kitchen and transfer of equity) so reluctant to spend money I dont need to be out of my own pocket, or I'd be going towards a trophy and putting the rest up.

Cambelt on a 172 Cup wouldnt be an issue as they're uber cheap in perspective but the lack of ABS makes me think twice about it - didn't really use it in my 172, one less thing to go wrong I guess?

I'm also in 2 minds about going 172 cup and pay the credit card off (£1,200) or keeping the £1,300 debt and securing a tidier example.

I actually considered it as PB looked amazing when I met Saner in his, she however, hates it. I should man up I know

Ahh yes that is what I though you meant by cup sorry, I think a cup is a cheaper car to run due to its lower price of cam belt and lack of other things to go wrong, the only other thing would be to down size the wheels to 15inch and you have an even cheaper car to run!

I do hear there is a nice ph1 with low miles at R-sports car on here though, going for 3.5k I think, coming from there it will need nothing too!

Yeah but too close to the dead Monaco Blue I have in the garage - haha. Ordered a Clip "clone" to diagnose that and turn it into a track car....

I'm making a shortlist of cars to hopefully view this weekend. FSH isn't vital although it's obviously a plus point knowing the car hasn't been neglected over the years. I know I said FSH initially - I've bought my last 3 cars as the first ones I've viewed yet this ones proving harder for me to locate. I guess it's as the market is quite saturated and many cars have their own merits to justify their price. It's just finding a happy medium.
