182to a Trophy - Is it worth it

without being ignorant i havnt read much on the clio trophy or megane for that matter...

just wondering what other colours they are in if any? as there is a grey megane in burnley with dark trophy wheels on, now its been about for a good few months and i thought megan trophys were not out yet...but it looks the real thing so i think he works at local dealership...lol

and dampers look gbood, only problem with fwd cars these days is getting the traction on the corners, so well done renault for trying to sort this out ..but boo forf not just sticking an LSD in there..

trophys look cool, would like a ride in one1 day to bring back my cup days..

Lee - good, positive responses there m8. And you must be bloody smug having that 007 number - jammy sod! ;)

The rawness of the 182 Trophy definitely appeals. My ideal Evo would be a VI RS Sprint, which if Im lead to believe doesnt even come with a boot carpet as standard - so I do appreciate the no-nonsence models of cars.

Id forgot about you F&F scheme as well. That would certainly tip the scales towards me thinking of one....

Clio Trophy is just red

Megane Trophy in the silver

Though the trophy suspension upgrades will be available to upgrade normal 225s.

I couldnt live without xenons and I like having the headreasts in the back + leather/alcantara in the back. Xenons are the ultimate bit of kit for me on the 182, theyre just awesome and I would not move to any car without them.

So personally, I wouldnt move to a Trophy - I also dont like red cars; but I appreciate that its had some real driver enthusiasm injected into it between the suspension, lighter wheels and the Recaros. Its an excellent car for sure, just not for me.

The Recaros are gorgeous, I may get a set for my 182! ;)

After seeing the Trophy at Goodwood, im going to stick with what I have got for the same reasons as others have mentioned, the Recaros where fantastic though. Hope to get the chance to drive one and test out the suspension changes.

Obviously you havent driven one then so how do you know its a boat? If you know nothing about the megane and what it offers, dont bother to comment please.

you are wrong, i have driven both a 225 and a 225 trophy and the press reports on the 225 were right, it was limp and unimpressive which is why Renault bought out the trophy and now cup.

I personally wasnt impressed at all with the 225 trophy after driving it at brands, but then i am used to chucking the clio around.

I am yet to try the clio trophy and until i do I will reserve judgement, i am con fident it will be great though when i test it at oulton.

The reason for my comment to you was in response to your idiotic comment about the trophy when you probably havent even seen or sat in one let alone driven one.

There was no need at all to call me what you did, that was just plain childish and also against the rules.

Well it still stands. Ive been on this forum 2 an a bit years and not had a crossed word with anyone. All from a throwaway comment that was obviously said in jest. I do not expect to be spoken to like that, especially by an "admin" its a piss poor example to lead. I might not have a clio any more but Im still a paid up member and officially yorks area rep you lets have a bit of respect eh?

any comments made in jest should be proceeded with a smiley to avoid confusion, I have still not made a personal attack on you, just made a comment in jest about your choice of car, we do all have opinions at the end of the day, I just prefer to make an opinion on facts rather than fiction.

Respect where respect is due, I have no respect for people calling me what you did.

back on topic, i am really intrigued to find out how this baby handles, I think the 182 cup specced one is a dream so the trophy must be a fantastic piece of machinery.

I also like the recaros, they offer a lot of shoulder support but I personally wouldnt think of replacing mine with one, I would simply lose too much money, unless both cars were bought on F+F I wouldnt think it was a sendible thing to do unless you are thinking of keeping it for a long time.

I am looking forward to the 2006 model now personally.

I always have doubts about the model upgrades renault do, they are masters of marketing as we all know and things like the trophy and cup oprions are only available in the uk. If the original versions are that bad why arent these options more widely available? Its only in the UK that there is a demand for these versions. Also the fact that the cup option only costs £200 more on a 182 really set alarm bells ringing. Can it be that different for an extra £200?? Yes. The trophy is a roll out model with basically no visible changes. Correct, the difference is the suspension. The marketing of a roll out model thats essentially the same as the previous car does leave you wondering how creative the marketing bods need to be to shift those last 500 units.

I understand in your case you get big discounts so you can easily change your car, but if you have a 182 your looking at about 3-4 grand including depreciation to swap. Im just playing Devils Advocate with my comments really.....

Ive heard the remote dampers are a gimmick designed to lull the gullible in to forking out wads of cash for a run out special that will be instantly lost in depreciation.

Maybe they were wrong though eh.

i am thinking about changing over, heading over to see local dealers today to see if any chance of a test drive and to talk figures although the thought of the new version coming out next year is playing on my mind

Just a quick point, why hasn the trophy got a quicker 0-62 time than the 182 cup?

the cup is 20kg lighter than a full fat 182 and is 0.2 secs quicker to 62, but the trophy is 15kg lighter than the 182 cup but has the same 0-62 time

The trophy is only 15kg lighter than the full fat 182, according to renaultsports site, ergo 5kg heavier than the Cup.
no its not the Renaultsport site say:

182 - 1100kg

182 cup - 1090kg

182 trophy - 1075kg

in my brochure for the 182 it did say 1090kg for a full fat though, Renault cant even get the weights right

  The Jinx

On the renaultsport site the other day it didnt say that. It said:

182 - 1090
182 Cup - 1090 (der, sort it out renault)
182 Trophy - 1075

The Cup is 20ks lighter than the 182, ergo weighs 1070kg.
