19 TD gearbox for my 16v

Ok ive been told that a 19 TD Gearbox will fit my Valver and be a lot better than the standard JB3 box.

I reall yneed to know the ins and outs tho b4 i purchase.

firstly what Numbers should i look out for, also what model is best 1.9TD?

Also will these boxes have have the output for my speedo etc?

Im sure also 19 (T) Diesel boxes have the same ratios as the williams box? am i correct?

AFAIK the Williams box is just a 19TD box with a speedo output. A tougher unit with a longer final drive but closer 1st/2nd/3rd

A proper WIlly box from Renault (apparently reconditioned, but theyre brand new off the production line as far as I can see, and my contact with Renault UK has told me) is only £550

afaik TD box has completely different casing no... in fact i am sure.. as i have one it misses three bolts, and you have nicee big gap between box and block.

JB3 028 - this is the number for 19 TD...

it is supossed to have longer gears. 2nd goes up to ca 75mph...

or maybe i have completely wrong info? maybe my box isnt one for TD (although i bought it as such one...)

I havnt really got £550 for a new willy box..as much as id love to have 1!

What i need to know is what Gearboxes are gonna fit my 16v, Last(important), have all the neccasary outputs(Speedo etc) and be realativley cheap to get hold of? Also the Numbers i need to look out for?

virtually any JB3 g.box fits.
you can also try fitting Clio II 1.6 16v box. it misses three (afaik) bolt holes, and has smaller bearing - meaning it can last for shorter period, but these ,because theyre newer, are often in better cond. (not sure about the speedo cable output) - JC5 from new 172 should fit too...
renault is really nice make isnt it?

in most boxes (from smaller or 8v engines) you miss these bolt holes - and have the gap between box and block, and in some you need to fit another (your original) top boxcase mount (simple unscrew/screw job).

Cleared up alot of uncertainty there,

It looks like most boxes will fit my car then, which is nice In light of this i will probably try and find a box from sumthing newer like a 172..etc to drop in, aslong as i can be sure that itll fit straight on?

Ideally id like to keep the Ratios as close as poss or atleast the same my original 16v box, which is where i thought the TD box would be good if i can find one with a Speedo output.

Dont think i really want to get another JB3 box (16v) as they are not all that strong and with my driving style would probably last about a month!

Would any JB5/JC5 box fit? as these seem to be the better choice as far as strength is concerned.

anybody know what JB3 058 is from....? as it is slightly different to my old 16v box.

I know of some guy who has JC5 - from 172 in valver - don;t know if it fits straight away though. prob. you would need to change this metal lump - top mount...

Ok, I know the JB3 boxes from the valvers are quite a weak gearbox, but whats the difference between the JB3 and the JB5 and also how is the JC5 different.

Im not really wanting to play around trying to make things fit. I would ideally like a box that i can buy that will fit straight on.

If i can get a JB5/JC5 to straight on then i will but that.

Also i have been offered a JC5 S09 according to the breakers from a Laguna 2.0 would this be ok?

Also a JC5 002 from a Megane 2.0??

Also Maciek u say u have a 19 1.9TD box in your valver...how did u get around the problem of having no Speedo output?

If i could solve this prblem it might make my choice easier.

I had it fitted - no idea.

at the scrappy i asked for JB3 048 as for 16v. - "no we dont have it" was the answer (quite obvious)
so my question was "what you have then". - they had JB3 028 which was supposed to fit 19TD - I bought it as i needed a box urgently. then i brought it to the garage, where my car was being repaired, and they did all the job. (there was a funny call tho. - "erm Mr. this box doesnt fit..." - "I know it DOES..!" and it did and the speedo works.

Like I said - maybe i have somthing like "hybrid" box or whatever... i am not sure.

I think that JC5 S09 box from the Laguna that you were offered is the same as a re-con willy box.
