Looks good. Lovely cars. The normal ST lacks grunt.

The Mountune is perfect. Better built than a 1*2 too.

Id stick with that

What do you reckon is quicker in a straight line 182 or st 185? Was hard to tell cos I had 2 fat blokes in the car for the test drive lol

Doubt there'll be anything in it. But the ST is better built/quality.

Both evenly matched handling.

I have another to add to your list - Abarth 500
I had 1 before the Corsa VXR - standard is 135bhp but a £150 tuning box will put it upto 185bhp, the Abarth official Essesse kit (£2500 i think) gives you a remap, lighter alloys, Koni suspension and upgraded discs + calipers.
They do look a little strange but press the sport button and you'll be surprised how they can shift + economy was around 37mpg (town)

This was mine - optional 17"s, Full leather, stripes

I have driven, briefly I must admit, a corsa vxr, cooper s (turbo) and a focus st, I didn't like the way any of them put the power down, too much torque steer, which I haven't found in the clio... Yet. What I liked about the focus, looks great, nice place to be and comfortable, a good spec too. What I liked about the corsa, I like the look and the seats, but too much for me to live with on a daily basis. What I liked about the mini, honestly, nothing! I much prefer my 200 to the corsa and the mini, but I'd take a 3 door focus st!

why does speed matter so much? my cars faster then yours blah blah..

Just go for a test drive and buy the car which you enjoy the most, it doesn't have to be the fastest

I've also owned a focus ST.. The interior isn't a patch on the mini.

Going from a 182 to a Fiesta ST is a pointless move IMO.

How long does your insurance have to run?

Every car change doesn't have to be a Massive power upgrade to be fair, it is better quality and cheaper to run as well.

Insurance runs till August btw

Retardation runs high when you've got scotsman in the house.

I said earlier that I like mine, but due to the problems I'm having I really wouldn't recommend one. I literally couldn't care less if people don't like Minis, I didn't buy it to please cliosport.

LOL.

Serious business being a tosser, isn't it?

I understand that as I have done similar even downgraded for various reasons.

For someone in your position though that has 6k to spend, spending a extra 3K to sit in a ST just isnt worth it.

A 182 is such a good overall car they are difficult to move on from and I think a ST is a step in the wrong direction IMO.

Why not just cut the insurance off and take out a new policy for a R26? Even waiting for your NCB shopping round wil help you out with a new motor

If* they actually were 182bhp and 185bhp like the book figures i would expect the clio just becuase i would expect it to wiegh a little less but all cars produce different bhp so bit of a hard question to answear.

and like you said "Every car change doesn't have to be a Massive power upgrade to be fair, it is better quality and cheaper to run as well."

I'd say get a Mini personally.

I'm really pushing towards one as my next car.

Really well built and go nice. They do have problems but so do many cars.

Find a decent one and it should do you well. They do cost a lot more than your average 197/200 though.

You say that now but I'm sure (like I found) you will end up back in one!

i had my ph1 172 for 4 years and always wanted an Evo... So one day bit the bullet n got a mint 350bhp Evo 5. Had this for about a year n got sick of the running costs. It was sold for a "cheaper" run around cooper s checkmate (supercharged) which I got tired of after about 4-5 months of ownership. I drove my ph1 for a week whilst servicing work was carried out on the mini and was hooked again... Sold the mini n got a 182 as my mum has used the ph1 since the Evo got sold. Bang for buck, fuel economy, maintenance etc etc RS Clios are hard to beat!!

Im after a bit more power now so will be adding some boost to one of the little French hatch's.... Only question is, which one?!

as other posts have stated... Just stick with the Clio until you find something more worth while to change to. Mini's, 197's & 200's, and corsa's I'm sure you will find the 182 is more fun to drive and will save you a few pennies running it.

Hope this helps

Just a bit bored of it tbh, I've had mk2 clios for a few years now and looking for a change

See, your even putting a cam in the mini for that hp, and the corsa does it without touching internals.

Yes but for all that fitted is £1250 inc vat (cat cam, 550cc injectors, mynes remap, reduced pulley). This is the charged one I'm talking about. The cheese engine as fitted to the turbo cooper s and turbo corsa Vxr (which is basically identical) is a boost upgrade which those engines find it hard to handle. Due to being direct injection they have a massive coking issue. My friend had a remap that took it from 180 to 240 brake. Within 3 days there were engine warning lights and power cuts. Chip tuning is a false economy on that particular engine.

Even though I don't believe a remap had those gains your quoting...I'm not surprised the warning light was coming on, must have been a shocking map 'specialist' to even quote those figures.

why settle for something you don't really want? how long have you got to run on your existing policy? if you say you can't afford to lose the ncb then surely it must only be a couple months to go, if your only short way into the policy then buy the car you really want and just take a new policy out,

Mapped by Hopes & Dreams Motorsport iirc.

P Torque actually. Evolve regularly get JCW Turbo models up to 280 bhp and 300 lb ft with an intercooler and map. These start life at 218 bhp. Always worth doing research rather than wallowing in ignorance.

Mini does handle well out of the box but a clio rs it definately isnt. the problem arises as doing coilovers opens a can of worms. lowering it ruins the handling unless you get shorter droplinks and ball joint spacers for the front. another £250 on top of the 700 odd for half decent coils. then there is the fitting. changing out for normal tyres when the runflats go is a really good shout. saves weight and gives better drivability.

as said if you cannot be arsed get a clio rs. i still get nostalgic over my 182 but even 4 years ago it was starting to feel s**te after i had it for 3 years. not built to last. my mini has 1 squeak and one rattle now at 90k due to a new manifold and full poly bushing.
