197 clutch problem

Car  albi 197
I was stuck in traffic this morning (surprise :dead:) and after about an hour of creeping forward 2 yards every 30 seconds, my clutch pedal went rock hard. When i finally went to change out of first gear the car would lurch on gear changes and then would refuse to accelerate - instead just rev as if it were in neutral.

After about 30 mins it softened again and was fine. Anyone got any ideas? Cable on the way out maybe?

I had this queing to get into WSR a few years back. The revs went high but the car went no were. That was just the friction plate in the clutch overheating, left it to cool and it was fine after that, the pedal didn't go hard though.

Hmm so a new pressure plate then? not really good on the mechanics of a clutch.

is this part of the clutch? or can it be bought seperately?

Cheers for the help peeps

Ditto. Same for me at Trax. Few hours cooling down and it was fine again.

nice one guys, i'll leave it be for the time being, its usually never an issue but ive had to do a fair bit of travelling and gettin stuck in traffic is usually the norm nowadays.

i'll put the money towards getting my new engine mounts as they are pretty shagged.

Did you get a fix/accurate diagnosis on this as my 197 did exactley the same thing the other morning. Really bad traffic, inching along, not riding the clutch. Noticed the clutch had gone really hard and no play at all at the top. Put the car in forth at low revs and accelerated and the clutch was slipping, 20 mins later it was fine and back to normal. car is a 2006 197 with 25k on the clock. Any thoughts welcome! :)
