197 Gear Ratio

This has probably been covered umpteen times, but my inability to search properly couldn't find anything.

Did the gear ratio change in the 197 (end of 07 iirc?) make a massive difference to the MPG?

I'm wondering if it is worth spending the extra money on a later model with the revised ratios?

End of 2007. Think it came out on the R27, then the Cup, standard 197 followed as well. Tbh its nothing to write home about, I've had an early 2006 197, and now a 197 Cup, maybe see an extra 2mpg if you're lucky!

It came out after no.420+ ish on the R27's then carried on. Nothing much to write home about tbh. What gaz says really.

Thanks guys! I've seen one for sale, early 2006 model, ultra red, 35k miles, just had Gold service, for £6,500 - sound good? Its got digital climate control aswell.
