197 gearbox into 182?

I think the engine's on both use the same bottom end, so i assume that the bell housing and gearbox fitment would be the same.

Anyone know if this is possible?

Different bottom end.

The 197 uses the 800 seris big block the 172/182 use the 700 series blocks the 800 has a bigger matting face you cou;ld make one fit but for the effort not worth it by miles.

what about using the 197 block & box with the rest off the 182?

Guessing it would be REALLY expensive and a lot of work to not really gain anything

Yep its an option but might as well go for the whole hastle and stick with the 197 head etc as well for the extra power IMO.

Or better still for the price get a CTR engine same hp lighter and 6 speed box plus there more tunning bits and 300hp is cheap to do with supercharger kits unlike the 172/182

basically buy a 197 engine and box, swap the head, and then try and fit it to a 172/182 and then try and sort out the driveshafts etc

whats the point tho... for an extra gear...
it would cost a ridiculous amount of money and the 6 speed box is probably tons heavier...
