197 - talk to me

Just reminded me looking at another thread, what about the Type R? You were pretty set on one of them at one stage.

Whats put the 197 ahead?

I do also want an R26, but they're getting old now. I bought my shed near the end of its life and now it looks a hundred years old :(

Yeah I still love them. This is a mid-term purchase though before bigger things, so I don't want to spend c. £20k as it will eat into my next budget. I want new as well really. It's just how I roll.

my personal thoughts are the issues of the gearbox an your own opinion of the 197.

i remember you took one out and wasn't impressed with the performace.

are you sure you ain't that gooey eyed for one Roy?

oveall, it would make a cheap car for a while as a stop gap tbh. i actually think in todays climate you may get what you want for under 14k.

my nimbus is flying and is on 31k, 2 years old.

Stop gap is exactly the plan Seb. The bigger picture is something like a GTR. This was within my sights, but my tax situation fucked it all up. Depending on future work it's still possible, but for now I just want rid of my 182Shed and need a new car to roll around in.

I wasn't blown away by the 197 in a straight line, that's true, and the gearing is potentially an issue on the motorway.

Yes old. A year from now the R26 will look dated, just as the 182 did after the 197 came out. I love the Megane though. At the moment.

Yeah you're right, although luckily there isn't an RS version of the new shape Meg just yet.

I'll be happy to keep mine for another year or so.

Oh f**k yeah. If I already owned a Meg I'd be happy, and I do still love them. It's just perhaps not an ideal time to be buying one. Unless of course you want a ultra-bargain.

I have a Nimbus R27 and its specced up to the hilt. Phil at Renault Bolton hasnt sold one so specced before.

I bought it when the country was firing on all cylinders in terms of financial stability and it cost me just something like 16k 12 months ago. He could have sold it four times over that weekend.

When it was brand new it cost the original owner £18,500 because of all the options it has.

In a recession I would guess you are probably one of 5 people this week to buy a performance car in the whole country. The dealer will want to bite your hand off. I think you could get a real steal.

Just put your haggle hat on.

Oh and there is fook all wrong with the gear box and it will easily keep with 182 in a straight line. A 197 is years ahead a 182 in terms of development and therefore feels more refined. I have been glued to the back of a CTR before (the fast one) and they were supposed to be the 182s competitor.

However, its the bendy stuff that it is brilliant at.

There's nothing between any 172/182/197/Civic/Focus/Astra. They're all so close to 100mph that none of it matters. What matters is how the car feels. I think the 197 is lacking slightly in how it feels in a straight line. Probably because it doesn't have anywhere near 197ps, but on a twisty road you don't need to slow down. I love it :D

Are you still here?!

Get to the dealers man!!

saying that i fancy a 197 or r26/dci175 but it would have to be loaded with extras :D
