  Cliosport 197
Anybody opted for an extended warrenty on their 197.Mine is 3 years old soon so warrenty runs out,but not sure whether too extend it,they want £500 for one year or £700 for 2 years. Is it worth getting?????

Re: 197 Warrenty

it could well be... plus may help when you go to sell the 197 also.

but then you may not have any warranty issues over the next two years... (LOL)

the choice is yours. I would have if i kept my 197.

Re: 197 Warrenty

As Seb said, residual values are the only place it will count.

That is until the cambelt snaps lol......

tbh, if you were keeping hte car less than a year outside of warranty... i probably wouldn't... but if i was gonig ot keep it for at least 18mths outside warranty I would definetely.

I would be a lot happier buying a 4.5 year old 197 with 6 mths warranty than one without. definetely worth a few hundred quid more on a private sale imo.

Was maybe planning on selling it some time next year, would be an extra selling point, and as you say could always bang on a bit extra.

As long as its a Renault Harmony Warranty.

Don't bother wasting your money on anything else. But its deffinately a winner if its got warranty come resale time.

I would look carefully at what the warranty includes, who it is underwritten by etc.
Many dealers will charge a diagnostic charge to investigate a fault before approaching the extended warranty company for approval. I believe the Renault 4 you warranty is underwritten by car care plan, they also administer fiat 3rd year warranty.

This is a very good question and I too will need to decide this in nearly 3 years time when the warranty runs out on the 200. What with the issues with the Recaro's, I probably should extend. If after 3 years the seats have caused me that much hassle and i've still got the car when out of warrenty, I would be tempted to pay for standard seats (as opposed to keep replacing Recaro's)
My 172 has been good, however, I fear the wear a tear on the 197/200's are not brilliant.
Now, where's my crystel-ball?

The Recaro's technically fall under trim so they wouldn't be covered under even the most comprehensive extended warranty. To be honest trim under the manufacturers 3yr warranty is a grey area 9/10 they will declare it wear and tear. In my experience R27 seat bases always go the RUK customer services route.
Having said that, if you get in and out of the car properly then you won't have any issues.

Hmmm, I've been reading alot about these shitty Recaro's. Just when there's a glimmer of hope, I read something else. My bum hasn't even touched my Recaro's yet though, so I may be getting ahead of myself here.

We have covers on order, but I think I'll pass, as I've paid for Recaro's so I want to see Recaro's LOL

I really wouldn't worry about them, if you look after it like your 172 then they will be fine. The main problem I feel comes from the way people get in and out of them.

Just for clarification - the drivers seat on my 182 split and Renault replaced both front seats free of charge!

Warranty issues seem to vary on which dealer you take it to.

I wouldn't bother, what are the chances of something costing £500 failing? Thats engine/gearbox sort of failure.

well i took my 182cup into garage today only had it 7 month i got a 2 year extended warranty wheel bearings gone clutch gone sump gasket gone steering colum needs taking apart and they not willing to cough up and pay

  182 cup Inferno
well just been informed that they going to fix sump and wheel bearings but wont touch the clutch or steering colum

  Laguna sport tourer
i got my clutch replaced on an extended auto protect warranty (even though it was classed as wear and tear)- it wasn't gone but was getting heavy, all you have to do is mention trading standards or write a letter usually works for me

  182 cup Inferno
on warranty it says clutch facing not coverd but garage says it the clutch bearings or something like that that has gone so they been emailing warrenty people all day but they wont budge

  182 cup Inferno
just rang them Not to sure on the name could not understand him very well done as you said mentioned trading standards so then they told me to get garage to word their email differently regarding clutch........so will have to wait now till tomorrow

Warrenty was through a company evans halshaw use

  Laguna sport tourer
sounds promising, get them to say that it failed because of something other than fair wear and tear

  182 cup Inferno
garage told me that they might not pay becouse it has not properly faild yet car still drivable so i told garage to email them saying if they dont pay up and it fails 2 weeks down the line would they class it has wear and tear or would they then pay up

  182 cup Inferno
well after telephone calls to garage and warrenty people they doing all repairs to my car now seem like garage never worded problems correctly in their emails so even after all the chew getting a warrenty has paid of for me and it only cost me £250 for 2 years so my advice is to get one Stu197 but maybe a bit cheaper if possible
