197 ?

what are 197 like any good ? had a 172 cup before my last car witch was leon fr 1.8 20vt and the clio was alot more fun to drive. do all 197 come with brembo ? and is there anything to look out for when buying one ? like belts changed or common faults ?

I loved my 197 Cup. You'll probably find it heavy compared to the 172 Cup though, but way more fun to drive than the Leon.

They all have Brembos, red if the car has the Cup chassis.

Common faults seem to be gearbox related, usually synchro issues.

Belts are at 72k and it's an expensive service if Renault do it.

I went to one from a 182 to one and whilst it wasn't as raw and go-kart like it was a much better all round car (aside of what it got fuel economy wise).

All 197's have Brembos. Cup basically means stiffer lower (7mm) suspension, red brembos anthricite alloys. A 197 Cup loses the soft touch dash, AC, metal pedals, cruise control, and thicker steering wheel over a standard 197 Manual AC can be specced though

seems to lots about -6k and with low miles and fsh clean looking cars not rele bothered if it was a cup or not. haven't rele got the funds to pay over 6k.was looking at a mapped ibiza cupra fr mint with low miles on coil's full system brembos and just checked its lot cheaper for me to insure. but just like my old clio thats why interested in getting another Renault sport.

For 6k you'll get an early one with bare spec!

Put it this way I traded my very well spec'd FF 58 plater on 18k into a main dealer only a few months back for 7.5k so I think you're looking at, at least 8k private for a belter.

Even at that though definetly worth it.

what you mean by very well spec'd ? and i don't have the budget to get one for 6k+.

Mines up for £6.5k. '57 plate (Jan '08) Nimbus grey, 35k miles, recent gbox & Recaros. Great spec, good price. Imho.

its a great car, if you can afford it get the f1 version like i used to have all the cup bits plus the extras its a lovely car to drive, i have a 182 now just decided to change car because you can, and you wont beat the handling of the 197!

If your stuck on 6k I would try & haggle that red one down to 5300 & then use the 700 to PX your standard seats into some Recaros -

red 06 plate no cup pack and i bet no cambelt been done.
albi blue one is nice again watch for cambelt
3rd one is nice and has hand a belt
4th one in red needs a belt change
piston heads ones dont say about belts eirther.
and have the belts done by someone that know what they are doing and have the tools

I knew this sacred moment would come TBH, its a combo of them being more affordable, and brownbear / warren / forceindia or whatever his name was ditching this site. He was always so vocal about how crap and heavy the mk3 was and how pointless the diffuser was... and then went and bought a 200 anyway. For as long as he was on here he wouldnt let anyone with a 197 get a word in edgeways so people just assumed the 197 was pap, even though he had never even driven one.
