dont think youll find much at the price of the sony, ive had a look inside mine and the build quality aint bad, plus i got it scoped at work, did the calculations etc and it was chucking out 926watts on a 2 ohm load
dinky that model is slightly newer than my one. they both have the same specs/features etc, but just a different design ont he outside. if your looking for a bargain, the older mrdm1000 will be cheaper than the current model.

oh and a word of warning, these amps are fairly big, a pic of mine is below. the mrdm1000 is on the left:
basically it had to go there, as i couldnt put it at the side of the subs because the seats go up diagonally and not straight up. theres hardly any room left between the amp and parcel shelf and the amp and false floor. or you could mount it flat on the boot floor, depending on how big your sub box is.
I got my Viper 2400d (mailto:2.4kw@2ohm">2.4kw@2ohm) for £330 on ebay bargains to be had if you hold out for a while, but a sub for it will prove expensive
the alpine is your best bet, its amasing quality and has loads of features as well. all the controls are digital. just remember to add another 15-25 for the amp remote, so you can control the bass from the dash. its also typical alpine quality, only flaw is that it doesnt run at 1 ohm.
they all cost more than the alpine. besides, alpine are similar to rockford, they tend to underestimate the power figures. my mrdm1000 gives 1149 rms at 2ohms.
yeah some of them were a bit under powered (probably not in real life)
the digital designs one was sweet with its clip indicator but sadly it was designed to run a 1 ohm. which would probably give it a low power output a 2 ohms.
one other question, would it be mad to put this power into a w6v2???
well it aint 1000w but its 800w rms @ 2 ohms, its this havent hooked it up in my car yet but had it in a mates with the sub pictured below and it was everything i could of asked for.
the set-up above would sound quality, both good pieces of equipment,
if you only have the one w6v2 then I would go for the directed or orion 1100d (basically same amp), if you are thinking of getting another w6v2 then I would get something more powerful that can push its full power at 1 ohm
