1st Mods - Just Can’t Decide - HELP

R

rich[182]

Firstly I am leaving the following alone, totally standard

ECU/Mapping, CAT, Suspension/Brakes

I am definitely changing CAT-back exhaust and it WILL be hidden tailpipes and WILL be either from K-Tec or Hillpower

Right, Below is my sticking point - namely Induction options.

1 - ITG panel filter, Hillpower induction pipe, improved cold feed pipe to std airbox & also unplugged from airbox for better induction noise £110

2 - BMC CDA & Hillpower induction pipe £210

3 - Hillpower full induction kit diy £210

4 - Viper & Hillpower induction pipe £280

Questions

Will either of options 2,3 or 4 give me any real noticeable gains in throttle response & acceleration over the cheapest option 1 AND will induction noise be much louder (Should induction noise be same for 2,3,4 which is loudest) or should I just go for option 1 and put the £100+ saved towards my exhaust

If Hillpower also modded my inlet manifold (£180) would that definitely mean Id HAVE to get r-sport ECU and threfore mean I cant do the inlet manifold work

Finally got my brass ready after 4 months but induction decision doing my chuffin head in - just cant make my mind up

Cheers

TBH i cant really see any of thse IKs giving much more power over a replacement panel filter in the std airbox. However, i dont own a 172 so cant be sure - all i know is that it doesnt on a valver/williams. If your inlet manifold is modified you wont NEED the chip because its not really altering anything major - its just slightly improving airflow but the chip may help extract an extra bhp or so extra.

In answer to your question, and IMO, just go for option 1 and put the extra money to your exhaust.....

on my car the first thing i did was fit adjustable konis all round and tarox pads and discs then a uni-chip im waiting for an itg carbon filter but im toying with an itg panel filter and improving the inlet my reason for this is my mate did the same thing to his type-r and it was as good on the rr and cost under £50 if you want to know anything else pm me

I think the induction scream from an induction kit is worth a lot, you will defo feel the difference in power....BUT it will just be in your head.

Dont see the point in changing the cat-back if youre going for hidden tailpipes cause thats the only noticable change you get from a cat-back (except for the deeper sound at idle and low revs). Id go de-cat but if youre not going for a remap then Id skip the induction.

just my 2 cents
