2.0 16v Clio Frankenstein

  BMW 320d Sport

FAO Mat or Ben R16 or anyone!

Me and WOngy want 2.0 power now so whats the score with your lump?

If Im right Mat, youve got a 2.0 bottom end and 1.8 head? Ben is yours totally 2.0 with the 2.0 head as well?

What sort of work is involved - Im thinking its basically find a 2.0 Megane lump ( which Wongys sorting out at the moment), lift the 1.8 engine, take the head off, bolt it to the 2.0 bottom end and drop it in again.

IS there any machining needs doing to the internals or does it literally bolt straight together? What about ECU control, does it need a different wiring loom, rev limit, injectors etc?

Nick,

As far as im aware it just bolts together although it would probably need a chip to fuel it and you can only have a 6900 rev limit as the 2l doesnt rev as high.
As you know NH did mine but he will be reluctant to give out trade secrets.

Mat.

I have the 1.8 head which is the same as the 2l?
It is the manifolds which make a difference, the williams manifold gives more topend torque but the 16V manifold gives you more of the important lower end torque.

Mat.

Nick,

Why you wont 2.0l power? You got NOS why not just get some bigger jets and a progressive controller?

Also dont you have to reregister your car if yuou change the capacity?

Simon,

2l lumps have a lot more torque low down in all gears whereas Nick cant use the NOS till about third gear without losing traction.
No good for the pod.

Mat.

nick hill is doing my conversion
he was having trouble finding a 2 ltr bottem end though until i got the megane engine.

Mat,

With a progressive controller you can use NOS from first gear upwards, and it gives you a hell of a lot more torque increase than 200ccs will, without decreasing your feul economy all the time too. NOS with a progressive controller simply is, IMHO, by far and away the best form of tuning, with the digital controllers Wizzards of NOS are making theres nothing you cant do really.

Mat - cheers mate AFAIK the two heads are different, certainly the Willy head has bigger valves. But glad to hear it bolts together.

Simon - Im never one to do things by halves! Mats spot on with his reading of the situation, yes I have got nitrous and in the next couple of weeks Im rejetting up to 100bhp along with a progressive. But I also need 2.0 power as well, with the F7 engine, an increase from 1764 to 1994 makes a hell of a difference in the midrange, which is what I need. So basically Im doing both. I wont be happy until Ive got the ultimate fastest 16v! :)

Madman how much you paying for the 2.0 if you dont mind me asking? Are you finding the lump or is he doing the complete job for you?

Email me if you can...

Cheers. In fact Mat, I need the same answers off you as well mate. Can you email me?

im sure you could get higher rpm out of the willy crank, maybe stronger end caps? cause an 8000rpm F7 engine would rule......if a 20yr old x flow can do it, then yours can

the 1.8 head will bolt directly to the 2litre bottom end no probs. 1.8s and 2litres use the same head gasket as well. the clio willy head has higher lift cams, an extra .4mm and extra duration. from wat ive been led to beleive, the valves aree also bigger, but ive bin workin on my gasflowed 1.8 head, and theres hardly enuff space now, let alone bigger valves on the intake. a gasflowed and cammed 1.8 head wud rock on a 2litre bottom end! just make sure the rev limit is adjusted. dont want conrods embedded in the tarmac! if ur havign trouble findin megane engines, lagunas use the same engine in 16v form.

if u cant find a megane/lag/willy engine, build ur own. all u need to source is a 1.9 diesel crank and some new willy pistons(500quid from ren). or spend 600quid and go for the 2.1 litre option(from prima and bb performance)!!! mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

matt

just wanted to know the detaisl mate anyway.i dont trust anyone else on the car anyway so if i were to go 2.0 it would def be carried out by HP. ill see what my car is gonna be like with these new cams hes doing first, its already booked in to go back for the work

nick

fisrt call got 2 megane 16v units and i think its a wicked price unless they have spaceship miles on them. L & R said they aint got none and even if they did would want £700 for one,
they also said the 2.0 litre bottom end wont bold onto the 1.8 head but 1st call reno said it can be done. not sure whos right but i think its best to ask nick hill

wongy

madman

cheers for that mate. cleared that up
just it would be a waste of a perfectly good head and cams,do you know whats involved to make it fit

wongy

i would recommend you to call nick at hill power. its only little things like brackets which are used to mount things on the engine plus the rear engine mount is slightly different. im sure its nothing which wouldnt just come straight off your 1.8 bottom end anyway.
im gettin mine fitted on the first of june so ill let ya know how it goes

hope this helps

madman

thats would be great mate
im looking into it as a future mod as in later this year if i have the finances

what you doing with yours anyway
is it a full 2.0 conversion with modded head and cam ect ect ect

wongy

Nick mines a 2ltr bottom end with a Willy head, using 16v manifolds, injectors and loom! ECU was altered by Hill Power to run the williams engine. Seems to work quite well now as its 1.4 mile times showed

youre right! simple as lifting the 1.8 engine, take the head off, bolt it to the 2.0 bottom end and drop it in again.

Only thing u need is a williams starter motor, which might come with the bottom end anyway.

running a 19 16v box, only got it cos it was cheap and my old one was wrecked, but it done the job pretty well
