200 Cam belt replacement, dephaser change, yes or no?

I've just bought the wife a 200.

The cam belt was done by a 'back street' garage about 30 months ago, aux belt is already cracked??

I've booked the car in with Diamond motors for aux/cam belt, water pump etc, but is it worth getting the dephaser replaced?

When I had my old 200 and 197 belts done by Fred at BTM, he said no need.

Obviously a lot on here have had belts done, but how many had the dephaser changed??

While it’s all happening, for the cost (and peace of mind) just get it changed..

They're a better design compared to the mk2 dephaser, so you should be ok.

But if you can afford to, then no reason why not.

I changed mine on my 197, but seemed ok, changed the one on my 250 which was on its way out. While everything is off it always better to change as your only paying for the cost of the part.

Worth doing mate whilst getting everything else done and keeps the service book up to date too ?
