200 Owners, CHECK YOUR OIL LEVEL!

Car  Whichever has fuel
I checked mine at the weekend as I do regularly.

(please bear in mind the digital reading on the dash said it was at 'max' level...)

I pulled the dipstick out and it was bang on minimum. I did 370 odd miles in it that same day so thank fcuk I checked it!!

£15 for one litre of some Shell helix rip off crap at the 24hr garage (This was 5am) and I was back at max level again.

Just a word of warning not to trust the dash display!

yeah il second that! not even in a 200
i have this happen in my phase 1 saying its half on dash normally is min on dipstick
even my berlingo van has been doin this in the cold temps lately (-5 -10)

never trust new electronics FTW! even if its just for piece of mind get out and check yourself as daniel says

Lol same happened on my 182 after a long journey I was in Manchester and checked the oil before I set of back to see it was on minimum and I too got ripped off for the 15 quid shell helix 1litre

I always check mine by the dipstick but the oil level switch always displays the right level, not sure why so many peoples are so off!

I check mine so often, I'm probably losing more from wiping it off the dip-stick than from actual engine useage

If I just trusted the digital readout and it ran low on oil and the engine shat itself, would the warranty cover it??

a mate of mine ran his legacy 3l flat 6 dry when he bought it, proper mullered it, no oil lights or warnings in car (he's not very mechanically minded). he argued and threaten legal action and got a rebuild/new bottom end (whatever it was)?? under warrenty.

^ Ha thats brutal. Lucky to have escaped with that one under "Warrenty"
Checking oil levels with dipstick = 1minute Vs engine rebuild = £500 il stick to simple peace of mind over a digital readout!

^no as that's stupid

To us it is yeah, but what about my mum/wife/nan. They wouldn't lift the bonnet, only sending it in for yearly servicing. If they ran low on oil and never knew because the digital gague said so, surely Renault can't argue??
