200 Spacers???

Sorry if in wrong section, couldnt decide between this forum and exterior/bodywork

Another new idea to do to the 200 without spending loads of cash or properly modding it.

I feel that the rear wheels are lost in the arches a bit, so was thinking about dropping some spacers on them to stick them out a bit. Not sure how much would be needed for one. Ive seen the H&R 25mm spacers, but if I go that much will that look like I need to do them on the fronts aswell? I was thinking 10mm each side, but can you get ones that bolt onto the hub and then you bolt into those at that size, as I have heard too many horror stories about the ones you just put in-between?

What are peoples' opinions on doing this?

theres a few different types you can get, as in, bolts go through from the wheel all the way throught the spacer and into the hub or whatever, or you can get ones the bolt to one and then to the other. just get a tape measure, measure how far you want the rear wheels to come out, and how far you want the fronts to come out. you order them in pairs, this is probably your best bet http://www.venommotorsport.com/shop_category.php?category=wheel i think...they do 10mm up to whatever really. just have to choose what type you want, there both explained properly on the site.

and personally i like the spaced look

By all accounts, spacers on the 197/200 upset the handling (due to the fancy front hub set-up at a guess). Wouldn't bother.

Im not really fussed about handling issues, as I dont really push the car, drive it hard or throw it into corners, so it wont really affect me. Im looking to do it purely for the aesthetics.

If I got 25mm on the rear, would it make it look out of place, and look like it needs some spacers on the front??? Or would it look fine?

If you add tpo the rear and not the front it will induce more understeer (and look like a trike head on)

Spacers are w**k end of imo, I had them on my last 197 16mm hubcentric eibach's......... utter tripe. Took them off after a day. I'd question why you bought the car if you dont care about its handling as its one thing it excels on?

Why not?? I like having a quick car, but its not like im bouncing off the limiter and driving like im on track 24/7. Dont get me wrong, I go on the odd spin, but nothing hardcore.
Handling wise, I doubt a person who doesnt know alot about cars, like me, will be able to tell the difference in handling unless pushing it to the limit.
This opinion may change once im out of Uni and working though, as I plan to either buy a cheap car (like a Saxo VTS) to track or put this on track a couple of times so I may be able to make a more informed decision about spacers then.

Don't all spacers affect the steering centre point on all cars? I did HND MV Engineering when I was younger, and IIRC, steering geometry will be hugely erm...fucked up. That said, plenty of people run them so I may be wrong. This was about a hundred years ago.

I think you're correct roy, and it has more of an effect with revoknuckle/perfohub systems, because they are designed to reduce the distance between the steering axis of rotation and the centre of the contact patch.

Which is why the 200 (and I'm guessing the FRS) have an unusual offset

Sorry to steal the thread as such, but would you recommend not to? My dad's main issue with it is the steering becoming twitchy over bump's. I don't want to wreck the way the car drive's but some spacer's would certainly help the looks.

Could be, I found they really upset the car under braking, lurched all over the place

having a set of lower offset wheels instead of spacers (let's say you put et 35 wheels instead of et 45 vs a set of 10 mm spacers) is going to affect handling like the spacers are supposed to?
