Hello,
I have just brought a 2000 Renault Lutecia (Clio Mk2) 1.6 Automatic (3 speed plus overdrive?) Reg: DZZ956 Chassis number: VF1BB0D0AY0600573
It will only drive in reverse gear.
When you start it up and move it from Park to Reverse it changes into gear positively and when you go from Reverse to Neutral it changes fine.
When you go from Neutral to Drive (and any of the forward gears) the engine note changes and it runs free as if it is not going through the gear box and has no load on it.
This problem developed suddenly and with no symptoms before it stopped driving. It was going fine with NO drive issues the last time it drove normally.
The previous owner came home in it and parked the car in the garage (forward) as normal. The next time they drove it (later that day I believe) they reversed it out of the garage as per normal but when they selected Drive there was nothing there.
Do you have any thoughts as to what it could be as it seems unlikely to me that the gearbox would develop a terminal mechanical fault given it was going fine when parked up but I am open to any suggestions as to what it could be.
If it is electrical could you please advise me as to where I could look first to try and track down the cause of the problem.
Many thanks in advance.
