2001 1.2 16V Clio Gearbox

  2001 1.2 16v Clio
Hello,

my girlfriend has a 2001 1.2 16V Clio and the gearbox is whining in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 5th gears. I want to swap the gearbox out for a speedy repair. I believe the gearbox code for this car is JB1 513. I have sourced a local low mileage Mk2 Phase1 1.2 8V Clio gearbox, I believe these are the JB1 514. Can I use this?

Thanks

...to add, the current gearbox doesn't have a speedo sensor in the gearbox so I assume it is ABS driven. Any problem with using a gearbox fitted with a speedo sensor? A case of fit with sensor and ignore?

Cheers

You should be able to use the other box yep no problem.

If your car doesnt need the gearbox sensor its fine to fit the gearbox doing it the other way round ie none speedo sensored gearbox to a car which needs it is the problem

Check the gearbox you have now has oil though that might be the only issue or the gearbox selector.

Thanks for the reply. Are all pahse 2 8V gearboxes OK to fit to a 16V lump? I've found a JB1 184 box locally which is cheap enough. Excuse all the questions, I'm used to BMWs! I drained and filled the fluid first and the problem is the same. Could a selector issue cause the whining noise, only in these gears?

Thanks

the 8 and 16V engine are realy the same engine bottom end wise.

So yes you can use the other box.

Selectros worth checking
