2002 Clio 2.0 172 Resistor pack problem

Please can anyone help me.

My heating packed in. I have found what I think is the resistor pack and shorted across the 2 outer black wires and the fan went full speed.

I cannot see any way to get into to insides of the resistor pack to clean the terminals or how to disconnect the wires.
If I was to get a new one I see that the cable runs and connects into another couple of terminals, one which I can't see because it seems to right under the motor fan.

Any help is much appreciated (diagrams or pictures would be great) as I am in unfamiliar territory but I cannot face being ripped off by a Renault garage again as I've already been stung over Christmas for an alternator,battery and 4 new tyres!!!

renault say there are 37 types of resistors. ive had the same problems on my g/f`s 52 plate clio sport. stoped working then working flat out... i changed the resistor and they are working fine now. the resistor cost £100 form renault and it was a 10 min job.
To find the resistor remove the drivers side scuttle pannel and you will see a black box. on the left is the fan and on the right will be the resistor with a plug and a few wires coming off it if it is the same as mine. if not post a pic because i bought one from a scrap yard and its in the garage cos it was the wrong type
