is it turning over but not starting?? or is it misfiring?
can you hear the fuel pump prime when you turn the key?

Turns over wont start though, you can hear the pump prime up when the keys turned i thought about using some easy start to see if that would get it to turn over.

  Astra GSI, 172, Golf
there is no pump to prime up on these.

any lights on ? check everything is workin all electrics etc could be a fuse

It will be a fuel pressure problem by the sounds of it. Was the new injector coded to the ecu? Have you done a leak off test will all 4 injectors dissconected and the brown fuel pressure solenoid valve dissconected?

Yeah its had a leak off test and it was a brand new injector coded to the ecu, there was a tiny amount of leakage on another injector,I've Had some easy start in it this morning and got it to run,so i left running for 10 minutes and decided to try and drive it and it cooked out at the end of the street.

With a pressure tester mate connect it to the pipe that goes from the pump to the common rail

Thanks,I've got a funny feeling this was done when the garage replaced the dodgy injector. If the other injectors are leaking would this result in the car not starting?I can't get my head round it the cars only done 29,000 miles!

Yes the car won't start if any of the injectors have a leak mate. My injectors went twice on my old one

Cheers scrooge did you buy new or second hand injectors? Don't know if its wort spending 500 quid on new injectors to find out theres a problem with the pump :(

Nope refurbed them at 80 quid each. Make sure you replace the copper washers and the injector seats are seriously clean

Try pushing the pump a few times then turning it over. Was the fuel low as this may be the problem.

Some poor advice here, all injectors leak back. Its normal. What your looking for is excessive leak back which is causing your lack of fuel pressure.

There is no rule as to what the fuel pressure is at one point. It varies for different loads and conditions when driving. It should be around 250 - 300 bar for starting and idleing. Maximum is 1200 on the 65 bhp. Abit more on the 80 and 100.

My advice, take it to a diesel specialist.

My advice wasn't about it leaking back. He needs to make sure the injectors are sealed properly and that the copper washers are all fine.

After the leak/spill test two of the injectors left about about 5mm of fuel in each container if thats any use? maybe ill just take it to a specialist.

?

I'm no diesel expert but I believe they leak back to tank by design to cool the injectors.

Ffs I'm not talking about the leak off on top of the injector! I'm talking about the base of the injectors where it seals but to the copper washer being worn away and leaking, like what the Mercedes diesels are known for 'black death'

Wouldnt cause it not to start. Just cause a chuff from the injector seal and carbon build up.

Strange, not only on my dci did this problem stop it starting but also on my dads vito and his RR, but as everyone has said the injectors need checking and refurbing if necessary
