205 gti restoration thread

OK driving lights then

:)
they make a massive difference when new - loads of light
did look into something similar on the Clio, but can't find anything that'll swap over easily

anyway, coming along nicely. how are its mechanicals after having been stood up?

Aye it's fine will do an oil and filter change as matter of course, brakes are rubbing a bit due to surface rust but I'll use the car for a week once it's out of the bodyshop and all will be well then I'll MOT it.

After seeing this I reckon you need the clear front and side indicators after all:

Where do you purchase these original driving lights? Please don't say peugeot!!

GSF or ECP sell lamps, but you'd ideally want Siem or Magnetti Marelli ones (they both use different suppliers and some of the lamps they get in are dodgy quality - try to avoid Denji for example)

that's Shine's car (205GTidrivers forum) - it is stunning

there's someone running around Bristol in a very well restored white GTi that looks v similar, on SL434s too (wheels)

Have you seen my thread Henry?? (I've just bought one!)

I'm going to be going through this thread and annoying Rory very shortly!

lol got the lamps off a guy on ebay actually, denji ones £40, magnetti marelli or siem are about £60 - £70

There's a specialist called autofive who sell everything, not cheap but a good resource!

20 year old rusty french bolts haven't been too bad with this one, however 10 year old cheesy aftermarket tail tidy parts just gave me hours of grief this morning working on my Suzuki.

lol yeah everything else is fine its just the bolts that go through the wings and bumper and hold them to the chassis! gonna need to be grinded off i think

the front, i'll try a few more methods before i destroy it but its hard to get anything on it because of the bracket it goes through, very annoying as its the only thing stopping me getting the rusty wing off

the rubber mounts at the sides of the front bumper which slide into a metal channel are a pain in the arse!!! luckily you can get in easy enough from the wheel arch.
Good luck, been there done that:

Feedback from the bodyshop, door colour match isn't great apparently and they don't think I'll be happy with the new doors so I've to go and have a look and see.

Tailgate is on, central locking is giving them grief lol fun and games.

I'm wondering if I give the new doors a wash, clay, paint cleanse, polish and wax they might match better?! lol we'll see

Hmm not great then :(

You going up today to check?

Wee update, popped into the bodyshop today to see it. Tailgate is on with new lock fitted, drivers door also swapped over - central locking is giving them problems (rather them than me!)

The tailgate and door need a paint clean, polish and wax and then I think the colour match will be pretty good. Either way the tailgate is defo a big improvement over the previous one. The Right Hand door wasn't too bad previously but the left hand side has damaged paint so the LHS will benefit more.

Trying to source central locking solenoids for the doors as they're knackered but autofive quoted £110 + postage!!! Apparently the passenger door slave solenoid is cheap (£20) but the drivers side master solenoid is a genuine Pug part and £90.

DOH!

  A4 DTM/iceberg cup
dont suppose its similar to any of the later pug parts... e.g 106/206/saxo etc...nice little project you have going on here...every hot hatch fan has a soft spot for these

  tiTTy & SV650
Well the tailgate solenoid is but the doors I'm not so sure, tailgate solenoid same as AX, BX, Xantia, XM, 106, 405, 406, 806!

If it was a Valeo part I could pick it up from anywhere but being a Pug part I'll be looking for 2nd hand ones from someone breaking a 205 might even try a breakers or 10.
