2CV 24Hr Onboard Footage, inc the crash that cost us 7th place!

  Lotus Elise
Thought you guys might like to see these funny little french cars racing in the 24Hr race this last weekend at Snetterton.

I'd done the race twice before in 2003 and 2009 and had hooked up with Team Iceni Racing for the 2011 race.
We only qualified 19th as we had big problems in quali (gearbox change being one) but we def had the pace to be in the top 10.

I started from 19th and by the end of my stint had us up to 8th position. This is the start and first few laps.

And here is the crash with 75mins to go which cost us 7th place.

That does look fun tbh, albeit slow but fun :)

The 'crash' must of been mega frustrating

Caffiene is your friend :) worked out we spend 26 secs on each of the 2 straight, just steering straight and pedal to the metal.

You do have to concentrate though, you need to be inch perfect and use as little steering as possible.

Would still love to have a go though.Always said I'd race anything.

You can generally buy a drive for £1,500, sometimes less. I think it even adds to the event that you do it with a team you have never met before. I didnt know or had met any of my fellow drivers or the team before quali on the Friday.

One of our drivers, Duncan Keith had never driven a 2CV before quali day, never driven Snetterton, never driven more than 20-25 mins and never driven in the dark.

What's more he had oblyever raced one car before ... A Radical!!! Big culture shock for him.

It did take him a while to get up to speed but he was setting quick times day & night & kept the car in one piece.

It probably isnt ideal but certainly can be done. The guys in the next garage were ALL new to it, built their own car, went through 5 engine changes plus a roll which left them with no windscreen or rear screen for most of the race.

See you on the grid!
