2k Revs Idle Speed

Hi,
My timing belt snapped on my 2001 1.2 8v clio last week.
I got it to the garage and they have replaced the belt and the pistons and valves etc and all them bits so the car is now running.
There is a problem though. The car, when started only revs at 500 revs and jumps about and splutters. Giver it a bit of gas and it will jump up to about 2k revs and stay there.
The car still drives (although i dont want to drive it) and at 50 in 4th or 5th gear the engine management light flashes at me. The car doesnt seem to have much power when accelerating away from a junction etc even though it will be revving at 2k revs on idle.
I noticed the throttle cable under the bonnet is a bit loose but it was like this before the belt snapped.
Any suggestions?

Cheers guys

Had a look under the bonnet today.
The accelerator cable is very loose but it was like this before the belt snapped.
I disconnected the hose to the throttle body and it is full of oil and gunk, the idle control valve that plugs into this is very loose and missing a clip.
The engine dances about the engine bay when started and only revs around 500, give it a bit of throttle it rises to 2000 and stays there.

Apart from Gaz's suggestion of getting it mapped iv also been told that the timing belt might not have been put on correct, or it could of jumped a tooth? Or could it be a throttle body problem?

Cheers guys

Been out again and realised the mechanic has put the HT Leads on wrong. He put them as 4-3-2-1 and it is supposed to be 2-3-4-1, i put them back round the correct way and it backfires on idle. Put it back to the way he had it and cylinder 2 doesnt fire at all.

Any ideas?
