360 market place

You will have to bear with me as im not too clued up on this.
Recently brought a laptop, waiting for the net to be connected, just wondered to download updates on games do i need subscribe to xbox live for the market place or are the download free.
Do i just need x box live to play on line games with other members.

i think u can still download content from market place, but not join xbox live games

Market place you can get to as you only need Silver Live access which is free and everyone gets. To play the games onine against others you need Gold access which is about £40 a year...

so do i just connect my xbox to my laptop and download from there.
will it connect me direct or do i have to input a website or anything like that

as long as the 360 has access to an internet connection (either via a router or crossover cable to your laptop) just goto the dashboard and download content from there.
